I'm going (www.princess.com)

to take my wife to Alaska for her 50th birthday. I have only been around her for seven of them, but she deserves a trip more than anyone I know. She works extremely hard, cares deeply for her patients. Honestly she should have taken someone equally worthy of a fine trip rather than me. I still would have picked up the tab. Thanks to OC's very own TravelGal and her superb travel planning skills. IF I'm nuts I'll say hi from their internet cafe.

Take care up there Brick', you know we'll miss your sense of humor. :) You do know it's "May" don't you? :p

It's one place I would really like to go to along with the other 49 States and Canada of course. Does anyone know this weeks Lotto numbers? ;)

Take care buddy,

Rusty.

Wife and I went on our honeymoon 12 years ago. Amazing place. Any where you point a camera is a great picture. We went in late August early September to avoid the mosquitoes. They are brutal.

Most of the grizzlies have become almost tame in the national parks. You can walk right up and hand feed them. It is a really hoot, you should try it.

Absolutely. Do it.

When I was still in the Navy we did an Alaska deployment in the summer of 93. The sights were amazing.

I've always wanted to do a cruise up to Alaska again, but I figure instead of hanging out by the pool or casino, i'll be up on the bridge asking to drive the ship..... Old habits die hard.

My wife is helicoptering around and hiking for two hours on a glacier somewhere, I just toured Juneau and checking business e-mail and taking time to say Hi.

www.princess.com has web cams (see bottom of page) for the Diamond Princess. The days are just flying by.... NOT. Hope everyone has an opportunity to take a nice relaxing cruise someday.

Until later...

Arrived back home after a simply enjoyable trip.

My wife had a great time on the glacier at Juneau, she had taken the helicopter ride tour that included a 2 hour hike on the glacier. www.glaciertrekking.com

Next was Skagway where we took a bus up to the Yukon and the White Pass & Yukon Route narrow gauge railway back. www.wpyr.com I wouldn't say it was as thrilling as Colorado's Durango to Silverton rail, but the views were still much appreciated and made for a good day.

Next was Tracy Eddington Arm which is a wonderful view of two glaciers from the ship. I recommend the champagne breakfast for two, pastries, smoked salmon, fresh fruits and forrest berries, Alaskan King Crab Quiche, and of course a chilled half bottle of champagne.

The next stop was Ketchican where once again my wife took to the sky for the Misty Fjords National Monument, she was lucky enough to sit in the copilot seat, they landed on one of the lakes and stood out on the pontoons of the plane for about 10 minutes. Trip lasted about an hour and a half and was well worth it. www.promechair.com/FlightSeeing.html As she flew off on her adventures I toured the towns for flyfishing and sportfishing stores, I figured it was her birthday present so I took a back seat to her adventures. They could easily have stayed at Ketchican 6 hours longer, leaving at 12:30 was leaving much too soon.

On to Victoria (http://www.canada.com/victoria/timescolonist/story.asp?id=193D595B-35EA-4743-9949-3C2388B3A0E1)... NOT. Felt like a 5.1 earthquake, those who liked to complain did, those who took the event in stride had an easier go. When we finally reached Seattle the next day, hours and hours late, we had the usual long disembarkation. But because we bought our trip from TravelGal (hint x 2) and she had booked the flights home through Princess, there was an attendent waiting for us, gave us our rebooked flight information and we were off. It's an important thing to remember, because others had to contact airlines and make changes on their own. We flew out 6 hours late, but we only in the airport an hour or so. The time waiting on ship just meant a longer cruise.

All in all I would recommend Alaska in May, sunny skies and not a drop of rain until a mist met us in Seattle. We were very fortunate to say the least.

Sorry to hear you feel that way. Guess the one thing that is unavoidable about online communities is the inability of some to get along, to separate disagreements about racing topics from real life. Simply being civil must be a lost art...
