Just wonderin'

Does anyone know when the deal that CART did to go to race in Japan?

I can trace it back as far as March 1997, when Andrew Craig, in an interview he gave, said that the series was contracted to race on an oval in Japan the following year.

I assume that the deal was concluded sometime in 1995 or possibly 1996, considering the achievment to build a track there, they did have to move mountains ;)

I am wondering, was Motegi part of the deal for Honda to participate in the CART series then, or was it later on that Honda decided to bring the Champcars to Japan?

(a side note, was that private ;) investors brought the series to Germany & UK in 2001, rather than a manufacturer)

I miss it too, however OWRS has the strongest driver lineup for 3 years now.

The reason why the EARL is a poor substitute (despite the so-called knowledgable people at Trackforum) is that their cars are terrible,
