tryin to find somethin good to watch or else i'm headin off to bed.....

I stop and do a double take, did I just see what I thought I'd seen?

Flip back, and yep, champcar. The old DirecTV sponsored car. Someone's doin voiceovers for it. They flip to him. John Della Penna. Yapping about how wonderful 'Optionetics' is. Optionetics made sure he was taken care of. Ooo! Infomercial. Usually, at my realization of that, i continue to flip. (unless its one of those quebec infomercials for the sex chat line http://smilies.jeeptalk.org/contrib/scorchio/sgrin.gif)

So now, I watch for a little bit, and I find out that Optionetics is a way of making quick money on the stock market.

Now this leads me to the natural question.... If Della-Penna was making gobs of money on the stock market, wouldn't:
He still be in ChampCar?
He be a top flight team in ChampCar?

Now that I think about it, (I know, I shoulda taken sleeping pills) would Optionetics advise people to invest in MPH when it was around?

Would Optionetics go on the public market? Would Optionetics advise people to invest in Optionetics?

Why is water wet? Why is Bud Dry?

Assuming that you're serious, the story was basically that following the 2000 season, Toyota pulled their engines from the teams that did the years of development for them (PPI, Della Penna, Gurney) and 'bought' their way into what they felt were better prospects (Ganassi).

Della Penna wanted to continue in CART, but as the article indicates, none of the manufacturers would supply him with engines. Della Penna ended up suing CART (I believe successfully) over this (e.g. he wanted to participate, but none of the manufacturers would supply him with equipment).

How is that CART's fault?

This is what the lawsuit alleged:

On November 8, 2001, two former team owners, DellaPenna Motorsports and Precision Preparation, Inc., filed suit against the Company in the Circuit Court for the County of Wayne, State of Michigan, each alleging damages in excess of $1.0 million for breach of contract, promissory estoppel, misrepresentation, and tortious interference with contract and business expectancy. The Company intends to vigorously defend itself in this lawsuit. Management does not believe that the outcome of this lawsuit will have a material adverse affect on the Company's financial position or future results of operations.

CART settled with Della Penna and PPI

Edit: They did end up settling with Cal Wells (PPI) as well. It's on the same line in the document I linked above. opps...sorry about that
