Most of them are deserving, a few are simply way over played. I didn't see any songs by Barry Manilow, Milli Vanilli, nor the Captain and Tenille (sp)...MAN that song Muskrat Love will about drive you nuts and the song Manic Monday by I don't know who was horrible, heard it every Monday about 50 times "cuzz" the radio at work only tuned in AM and I didn't dare change the station because I was the new guy at the time.

I don't even recognize most of these songs, but I've got a real problem with at least these two being on the list...

26. The End ... The Doors ... 1967
42. The Sounds of Silence ... Simon & Garfunkel ... 1965

What's up with that? The End is my favorite Doors song and The Sounds of Silence is IMHO, beautiful.

I didn't see the song "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", either. Don't know who did it or when, but it turns my stomach every time I hear it. And Where is "YMCA"?

Stupid list.

In The Year 2525

Denny Zager and Rick Evans Reached #1 07-12-69 on the Billboard Charts.

In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find........

In the year 3535
Ain't gonna need to tell the truth, tell no lies
Everything you think, do, or say
Is in the pill you took today

In the year 4545
Ain't gonna need your teeth, won't need your eyes
You won't find a thing to chew
Nobody's gonna look at you

In the year 5555
Your arms are hanging limp at your sides
Your legs got nothing to do
Some machine, doing that for you

In the year 6565
Ain't gonna need no husband, won't need no wife
You'll pick your son, pick your daughter too
From the bottom of a long glass tube

In the year 7510
If God's a comin' he ought to make it by then
Maybe he'll look around himself and say
``Guess it's time for the Judgement day''

In the year 8510
God's gonna shake his mighty head
He'll either say ``I'm pleased where man has been''
Or tear it down and start again

In the year 9595
I'm kinda wondering if man's gonna be alive
He's taken everything this old earth can give
And he ain't put back nothing...

Now it's been 10,000 years
Man has cried a billion tears
For what he never knew
Now man's reign is through
But through the eternal night
The twinkling of starlight
So very far away
Maybe it's only yesterday...

In the year 2525
If man is still alive
If woman can survive
They may find.......

My dad despises all things ALW. He calls it "trite classical pop".

How about the trucker era in the 70's? Convoy? Remember the 'Streak'. All those 'talking' songs were pitiful.

A whole lot of bad junk from the '70's. Disco Duck anyone?

Artful Dodge? I'm great friends with the keyboard player from Artful Dodger! I had no idea anyone would ever remember those Cheap Trick wanna be's!

This list is bogus for one reason...they forgot the Macarana.

Is it not PC to say that 99% of rap blows. MTV2 has a rap show where they run the lyrics at the bottom of the screen.

"G-Unit (What)
We in here (What)
We can get the drama popping
We don't care (What, what, what)
It's going down (What)
'Cause I'm around (What)
50 Cent, you know how I gets down (Down)"

And yes, I agree with l_g on the country thang.

04-20-04, 09:38 PM
Okay, that is a very personalized, subjective list. I mean, how do you quantify a 'bad' song? There are so many ways to do it. Poor lyrics. Poor performance. Poor harmonic structure. Cliched riffs. 'Dated' sound. But it seems to me that list has way more to do with a young-ish person's view of certain styles, performers, genres, or time periods than with a well thought out criteria of what constitutes a 'bad' song.

Or maybe I'm just being defensive 'cause I like some of those songs.

Rap as a genre isn't awful. Its just what it has been turned into over the past 10-15-20 years or so that blows.

lets just remember one thing, that mindless **** from that other state to the north that starts with "TE" is not country, it's nashville ****. it doesn't count. it's hereby and forever disqualified from consideration as country, hell, it's forfeited its right to be considered music.

and how is a beatles song on there before a nickelback or lit or ja rule or metallica load/reload song?

1. We Built This City ... Starship ... 1985

I'd add the equally worthless Sarah by the same.

Talk about a once great band that transformed into one of the most inane, 80's pop/rock drivel groups of the time. It's hard to believe that the Jefferson Airplane became the Jefferson Starship.

Grace Slick went from "7 inches of pleasure" after "one pill making her larger" and the "other making her small" to

"Marconi plays the mamba, listen to the radio, don't you remember
We built this city, we built this city on rock an' roll" [: GAG :]

Purple Panic
04-21-04, 10:53 AM
I'm sorry, but this list is extremely heavily biased towards 80s and 90s tunes and just about ignores every other genre, except for throwing in a stray Beatles song (which I happen to be quite fond of). There are so many more worse songs that belong on that list and should have been murdered before they appeared on the charts.

If you have to base it on 80s and 90s, where's the Rick ghAstley?! Where's the Toni Basil?! Where's the New Edition?! Where's the Eminem?! Where's the rest of the New Kids on the Block?!

Somebody without a brain made up that list for the sole purpose of being controversial. Somebody who needs to shut his trap and get some taste. :flame:

I love that track ! :oSorry mate, NO hair metal bands exist in my catalog sans the first two Motley Crue LPs, but then they were kind of in their own little group weren't they?

To this day Bret Michaels of Poison blames Kurt and the Seattle gane of ruining a good thing.

Hey Bret, if it wasn't Kurt, it would have been Soundgarden, Pearl Jam, AIC, or Mudhoney, so he wouldn't have won anyway.

Add to the list ANY James Taylor song or Key Largo by Bertie Higgins.

Anything by the surf punks

And I have to say that when my office manager had a fight with her husband and then forced us all to listen to the gypsy/squaw era Cher classics interspersed with Styx, I thought I was experiencing the depths of ehll...we need a barf emoticon, where do I get one?

A close second is listening to one of those commercial country stations that plague the airwaves...my bro in law nascar fan foisted that on me last weekend...huuurrrlll...each song a pathetic caricature of two or three old songs, updated with modern production and a mealy mouthed fake southern accent...beleeeeaaahhhh

Okay, I've read all three pages of this--

Half the worthy songs listed were AM classics in the 70's. I'd forgotten most of them. I'm sure there are more, but I can't resist dropping the Neutron Bomb on all of you.

I defy every single one of you to listen to "Bilbo Baggins" sung by Leonard Nimoy at this link

Aw, c'mon, I love that CD!!! :p Sure, the lyrics make you roll your eyes, and the harmonies/arrangements are designed to provoke a sappy reaction...but they're a fun indulgence when I want to remember those blissfully ignorant years of teenage angst!!!

But mr anait agrees with you, and I only play it when I'm home alone, or driving alone...or sing at the top of my lungs when I'm in the shower alone...

Hey, can we do an 80's karaoke night at T-O this year??? ;) Cover your ears, folks, anait's gonna sing...

And I know just where to touch you,
And I know just what to prove;
I know when to pull you closer,
And I know when to let you loose.
And I know the night is fading,
And I know that time’s gonna fly;
And I’m never gonna tell you everything
I’ve got to tell you,
But I know I’ve got to give it a try...

...I can make tonight forever,
Or I can make it disappear by the dawn;
And I can make you every promise that has ever been made,
And I can make all your demons be gone.

But I’m never gonna make it without you,
Do you really want to see me crawl?
And I’m never gonna make it like you do,
Making love out of nothing at all.

The problem with any list is that it is a personal list......

There are some songs, that although bad, could easily get bumped off the list by a tonne of songs that a group of people could think up.

Seems like some of the songs on that list might be on there because they were overplayed to death....

My additions:
Spirit in the Sky - remake, Doctor and the Medics.
Major Tom - Peter Schilling
Kung Fu Fighting - Carl Douglas
Radiation Ruling The Nation - Massive Attack vs. Mad Professor

Reading this thread proves there's no shortage of lousy songs. I'd like to
add "Big Yellow Taxi" by Joni Mitchell.

I don't even recognize most of these songs, but I've got a real problem with at least these two being on the list...

What's up with that? The End is my favorite Doors song and The Sounds of Silence is IMHO, beautiful.

I didn't see the song "The Lion Sleeps Tonight", either. Don't know who did it or when, but it turns my stomach every time I hear it. And Where is "YMCA"?

Stupid list.
love the doors Jim Morrison ROCKS!

I've just been reminded one of the worst songs ever written. It's Paul Simon's "You Can Call Me Al".

Ziggy -
Don't blame Joan Osbourne for "What if God was One of Us", Prince wrote that little gem. Prince's version of it is much better than Joan's musically but it's still the same lame lyrics. He must have written it while he was in one of his religious phases.

I definitely disagree with some of the songs on that list, but I can't take any worst song list seriously that doesn't include the following:

Heartbeat - Don Johnson
She's Like the Wind - Patrick Swayze

These guys (and Eddie Murphy) should really have stuck to acting. I do have to give Eddie props for "Boogie in Your Butt" though, at least that one was entertaining.
