Spare the "I'm not giving Tony one dime knowing what he's done to open-wheel racing in the states" crap. I feel the same way, but the lure of F1 is stronger than my hate, especially when you can get by as cheap as you can for this race...

Haven't missed one yet. It's definitely the race I enjoyed the most last year and wouldn't think of missing it this year. Parking and crashing with a buddy in the back of the Expedition across from the coke lot at the corner by the oval's T-4. :thumbup: One of my favorite race weekends despite tg.

I just remembered something about camping in the Coke lot this year. If you want to drop tent (or camper or van) on the south side of the creek, you must buy your camping pass in advance. Any sold during the weekend will put you on the north side of the creek.

Option #2. If you left the old lady at home and tried out Montreal, (albeit more costly), when you were finished eyeing up the fine Francophone ladies that come out by the thousands, you would get back home and poke pin holes in all those blowup dolls.

Dude, I get that way by lookin at the chese curd-eatin' "chicks" at Road America. All the inner-tube repair patches on my blow up dolls are givin' 'em a somewhat less realistic look... like I'm hittin on Patches and Pockets...

I'm there all 3 days... undecided on accomodations. One thing is for sure... I'll be in H for all the sessions. I can watch those doods under braking all weekend long into 1. Haven't had any desire to make it inside that track in the past couple of years anyway... the end of Hullman (before Mickey and Mouse) is interesting though, if you've never seen it.
Don't forget that sunscreen! ;)

Thanks to my wife and the free ticketes we get every year, I don't need to worry about giving FTG any $$$. I will definately be in the Coke lot no later than Saturday, hopefully Friday night.

Another reminder: If you want to camp on the south side of the creek, buy your camping pass in advance! Any that are sold that weekend will put you on the north side of the creek.

I’ll be there. I got everything sorted already. I’ll be flying in Friday evening so I need you guys to save me a spot close to camp. Also since most of you drive to the race I want to negotiate you saving me some cooler space. I’ll bring this up as we get closer to the race.

Hey guys, I know I'm a little off the original intent of this thread, but I'll go here anyway. I'm breaking down and spending money at TG's race track for the USGP in a couple of weeks, and wanted to know if anyone had words of wisdom about buying reserved seats vs. buying GA and finding a viewing mound on the infield.
Are there infield viewing areas that provide a good vantage point and good action? Knowing that I can't get in H stand to see pit-out and Turn 1, is Paddock still worth it? Any other suggestions?
I'm trying to decide whether or not to order reserved seat tix by this coming Monday, and I'd appreciate your feedback.

I haunt the mounds in practice/quals but watch the race from the NW vista which also gives you a good view of pit-out and turn one.
The mounds are cool.
I wouldn't even think about buying reserved ticks if I didn't already have pretty good seats.
I don't know how soon you will be arriving but if you are going to be there during practice/quals walk around and judge for yourself where you want to sit.
Good ticks in any section will be available on the street raceday morning.

There's pretty good viewing from the mounds. I spend all day Saturday walking around them taking pics. As far as the race, there generally are quite a few tickets for sale by scalpers and fans during the weekend as well for almost every location. The turn 1 seats are scarcer to find now than the first couple years and the price has gone up.

'bird and RT are both spot on. Wander the infield on Friday and Saturday. You can also check out any seat, too. Starting Saturday evening start scoping out the scalpers. They are everywhere. But remember that prices will go down as race time nears so you'll be taking your chances if you wait too long holding out for good seats at a good price.
About your question about the paddock, it depends on what your interests are. Pit action or track action? I have my seats in J stand looking down on turn one since the first race, second row from the top, and I love 'em. Paddock isn't for me, but to each their own.

Make sure you take a moment during practice or quals to go down by the fence at the exit of the final turn, right before they start down the Start/Finish straight. The cars are literally 10' away from you at full song... it's the biggest rush I get from the whole racing season.
Be warned, if you haven't been to an F1 race before, those V-10 motors are loud... so loud that, without ear protection, it will feel as though pencils are being shoved in and out of your ears... and not nice, smooth, new pencils... I'm talkin' pencils that have been chewed up by your basic lower-level office worker who is awaiting a meeting with his boss... a meeting where he thinks he will most likely get the axe because he thinks his boss found out about him downloading inter-racial midget porn clips on the company computers after hours, only to find out during the meeting that the boss is just a little concerned about his seemingly compulsive use of Post-It notes around the office.

This will be my first trip to an F1 race. A good way to spend Fathers day with Brittany, she's looking forward to it too, as well as the pre party sat night. ;)

Make sure to watch some pit action during practice from the high grandstands. Take binoculars. It's amazing to watch the mechanics rip the cars apart after each run. Watch some serious braking from the fence near turn 1. You can sneak between the bleachers and stand a few feet from the cars when they stomp on the brakes. The infield fence near the north vista offers excellent photo ops as the cars go through the twisty bits. Standing at the beginning of the back straight you can hear the most amazing resonance as the cars shift up and drive away from you. As far as earplugs go, I have a huge box of cheap ones and I take a few dozen pair. I give em away to crying children and first-timers who are in obvious pain. The first year I saved the hearing of a couple yellowshirts...they nearly kissed me they were so happy.... :D

You need divine intervention to get near the F1 paddock. I heard that Bernie's goons even turned away Mari Hulman because she lacked credentials. She needed a cell phone call to her idiot son got her through the gate.

You need divine intervention to get near the F1 paddock.No you don't... you just need the right connections. If you know anyone that works for a team's sponsor, that is a good place to start. Certain races are harder to get in than others... it all depends on what hospitality commitments a given team has for that particular race weekend. If that doesn't work, you can always pay your own way into the paddock club... but its like a few thousand dollars I think :gomer:

My source of free tickets got us crappy (but, hey, free) seats down in the SE vista (I497.5 turn 2) rather than our usual NW vista's. We planned on hanging out on the mound on the backstraight for a while but thought we'd move to the NW vista later see if we could get in.

They are mostly dicks. Just depends on which one you get in front of you.
For the first time I can remember, the yellow shirts weren't checking seats at the stairs to the grandstand. It used to be impossible to get to the penthouse unless you had a ticket. No one checking this year.
