NEW MAGAZINE TO LAUNCH IN MARCH
Formula car racing gets brand new publication

For Immediate Release – January 29, 2003

TORONTO, ON – North American formula car racing is set to enjoy an unparalleled level of media exposure in 2003 thanks to the introduction of a brand new publication dedicated solely to open wheel road racing. ‘FormulaCar Magazine’ will make its debut in March and will focus its editorial on the junior formulas of the sport, bringing print coverage to racing programs that have been virtually ignored in the past. Produced on high-quality paper with striking full color from cover-to-cover, this new magazine is aimed helping formula car racing attain a brand new level of professionalism and popularity.

Veteran motorsports journalist Rob Howden will produce the new publication, adding it to his company’s existing titles – Shifter Kart Illustrated and Speedway USA. Established as the premier publisher for kart racing publications, Howden Communications Inc. (HCI) is experienced in launching and developing a niche motorsport magazine. As the foremost expert in shifterkart racing, Howden was honored with the appointment as a judge for last fall’s Fran-Am ‘Shootout in the Desert’ program and he will also be part of the Speed Channel broadcast team for this summer’s ‘03 Champ Car Stars of Tomorrow program. This move into the formula car community is a natural progression and the life-long racing enthusiast is extremely excited about the new addition to his line-up.

“From surveying the current racing scene, I feel that it is easy to see that junior formula car racing is in dire need of a quality magazine to provide much-needed coverage,” offered the veteran motorsports journalist. “I believe that our new publication will fill a necessary void that will allow focused information delivery for the sport while at the same time aiding competitors in developing more beneficial marketing programs. Any sponsorship package needs media exposure and right now, most ladder series formula car racers face a complete absence of print opportunities.”

The new publication will focus on the ‘junior’ formulas of the sport and will position Formula Ford 2000, Fran-Am, Star Mazda and Barber Pro Dodge as its headline programs. Additional coverage will also be included for the Skip Barber Formula Dodge National Championship, Canadian Formula Ford Championship and Valvoline Pro-Vee Series. SCCA National and Regional competition will play a big role and the annual Valvoline Runoffs hold a huge position on the magazine’s editorial calendar.

In an effort to become a regular staple of the regional competitor, FormulaCar will also include special technical segments in each issue. A growing list of motivated contributors is set to provide focused articles on the technical side of the sport – including topics ranging from chassis set-up and engine management to driver coaching and marketing.

The magazine will be debuted at the 12 Hours of Sebring during its ‘Launch Week’ where several thousand copies will be distributed to the competitors and racing enthusiasts. Six issues are planned for 2003 and pre-launch subscriptions will become available on February 14 when the magazine’s website (www.formulacarmag.com) goes live.
