There's no replacement for displacement, as they used to say. Hell of a crank shaft!

Posted before, but one of my favorite sites. My favorite comment was that this was going to be the new crapwagon engine spec... rev limited to 90Rpm of course. ;)

BTW, one of our customers makes the pistons for these bad boys. The company is KS Largebore Pistons. No idea how they managed to come up with the name... :D Actually, they have two factories. One is for your average huge pistons, and the other is for those monsters like the Wartsila-Sulzer engine has. They are up in cheesehead country.

Sent the link to my Coast Guard buddy in Hawaii, and asked if he had ever seen one that size. His response:

"Obviously not that one, but many of a similar size. I can specifically
remember inspecting the piston sleeve of one main diesel engine (MDE) in
1994. Just walked into the thing, stood there with my flashlight, and
walked around checking scoring tolerances. Seemed to be about the size of a
standard bathroom.
This size though, is only typical for slow-speed MDEs. Usually average
three stories. The medium and fast-speed MDEs are much smaller, but those
have lately (i.e. the last 15 years) been relegated to moving generator
sets"

A really cool site.

Should help to keep the Wagon's down on the track. ;)

Probably once its started they never shut it off.
Interesting in that its a two stroker.
I like to see the oil pan.....think you could get it serviced at the quick lube?

"Yes sir, that will now be $142,930 for your oil change."

They probably just light off a case of dynamite in one of the cylinders to get it turning.

Here's an interesting interview attributed to Brian Barnhart about that very subject...

Could be, if you could keep the glow plugs from predetonating.

Boomhauer would say, "hey man, put a lil gas on it and booowooowoooo boom. yeah man." (http://home.earthlink.net/~joebobzen/wavs/cow.wav)
