It's cool. I'm not getting any work done.

That's why you own your own business, Scott. You don't have to get any work done.

:p

I've always thot they were way too cool, even in the 60's. They're really relaxing and almost hypnotic, especially when enjoying the herb.

I bought several cases of the large 52oz lamps for xmas gifts, along with a monster 250oz. Of course I had to haul them all up to the bedroom and fire them up at once, just for the sheer spectacle of the thing. My wife thought I was nuts and hassled me until she actually wandered upstairs, whereupon she promptly sat down and spaced out for several hours :D.

I took a bunch of pics- I'll have to post some. The majesty of those things operating in large groups cannot be overstated...

My wife......hassled me until she actually wandered upstairs, whereupon she promptly sat down and spaced out for several hours

That's hilarious, because everyone at my office hassled me too when I rolled in with it. Now, everyone who comes into my office to ask me a question or something simply STARES at it while they're talking to me. Classic.

My "straight off the boat" Grandma won one of those at Bingo back in the early 70's, had it atop her tv along with some plastic flowers .....you're cool just like she was

Groovy! m3. But I thought that EVERYBODY in California already had LavaLamps.

For you tinkerers, handymenz, or cheapskates, here's how to make your own:

I have one of those plasma lamps, which are cooler because the plasma/lightning follows your finger when you touch it.

Made in Chicago the old-fashioned way, baby! (With lots of graft and corruption).

P.S. Stay away from the brown blotter.

One more California holdout here--which is pretty odd when you consider that I've loved those things since the '60s. My doctor had one in his waiting room--it was the only enjoyable part of my too-frequent visits with him. :(

HA! I walk into the office this morning, and EVERY person (4 others) has a lava lamp operating on their desk! I like the people I work with. Classic!

Where does one purchase such a retro-furnishing?

Cool man. My grandmother recently gave us her original one from the 60's. It's really cool, it even has the holes cut in the metal base to look like stars. Groovy.
