You know, I really wish Justin Wilson the best and I am glad that he is going to Conquest, an established team, so he can show how good he really is. I follow F1 like a fiend and he really got hosed by Jaguar, he could not even get much testing since they are one of the teams who agreed to limit their private testing in favor of an extra two hours on friday. But Jaguar could never give him a reliable car so he rarely got more than thirty laps at any track, many he had never been at before. I remember him in the Minardi being physical and showing excellent car control with the twitchy beast, which I believe will serve him well in champ car. Good luck with ya mate, hope you do as well as Manning, but not end up with the same fate. As for manning, you cannot really blame him for leaving, he is a relatively unknown driver who had a chance with a fully funded team. Hope he comes back.............with Target too!

Best wishes to Justin - that would be an absolutely huge coup for Conquest. As has been said, he was hosed at Jaguar. From what I hear, he's as great of a person off the track as he is on it, so I'm sure he will be an excellent addition to our series!

A good addition to the series, brings some talent and adds to the depth of the field. By the way, I'm surprised Verstapens name hasn't come up at all either in this VERY late silly season. I know he's mentioned not having an interest outside F1 but I think he still has the racing bug and some cash behind his name.

Who's he, an engineer?

If they have someone who knows the Lola helping Wilson out, this could be the story of the year. I expect some results. This is the best driver announcement I've heard yet.

no you can't blame a man for wanting to actually have a checking account for once in his life

Who's he, an engineer?

He was the chief mechanic for Buddy Lazier's dad during his sole full CART season in 1981. And Derek was old then.

I'm surprised he was with Conquest last year to begin with...I figured he'd retired years ago...?

Since we have a few weeks before the season begins, we could start a LONG thread with the topic "People/Organizations who have been hosed by Jaguar."

The CCWS press release confirms there will be a second Mi-Jack Conquest entry with driver TBA. Haberfeld? TBell?

Do we start with Jackie? Since I don't think they told him that they'd completely bugger up his baby?

Excellent to have this finalized. If he has a decent engineer and the Lola chassis he should be competitive and maybe even grab a win or two throughout the season. We'll have to see how he adjust to the series, though if the rest of his career is any indication...he should be up there wiht the best.

according to Wabbit, its officially 13 now. if you add the already announced cars with TBA drivers, (2 at coyne and 1 more at conquest) its 16.

If Jourdain doesn't end up at any of the TBA rides already mentioned above, and he goes to another team, its 17.

I don't think Jourdain is going to be either of the 2 cars Coyne announced, those were announced as driverless. I'd be surprised to see Jourdain become the second Conquest car. I consider him in the series. I think a team is just working on buying all the stuff from Rahal.

CCWS adds another F3000 champion.

Excellent!

Wilson didn't get a fair shake at Jaguar, and he'd been impressive at Minardi, he really should still be in F1.

I'm surprised and delighted to see that he is coming to Champcars! He could prove to be of the same calibre as Manning or even Bourdais.

Hi, I’m new here. As one of Justin Wilson’s investors, it’s great to see so many positive reactions to his move to Champ Cars. :D He’s a fine driver and a really nice guy so I’m sure he’ll be a real asset to the series. I just wish I could get to see him race this season :( .

"I was just getting used to the car at first, but once I did, I felt really good. The main thing for me was the seat position. You are more laid down in these cars than you are in F1, but it's actually quite comfortable once you get used to it.

I thought having your feet up in the air, like in F1, would be the funny seat position. I hope he gets a little seat time before Long Beach. A street course with almost no runoff is not the best place to learn.

He ran at Monaco with Jaguar last season, right. LB will look enormous and wide open after that.

As for the F1 seating position, I think drivers will accept about any posture as comfortable enough when it makes the car faster. On the otherhand, I still want Champcars to be flat from first bulkhead to the engine mount: it keeps a now unique look in formula cars. What teams and designers do under the sidepods is their business.

Actually he was still with Minardi at Monaco. He should be OK at Long Beach as he's usually pretty good at staying on the track. The only race he spun out of last season was Brazil, when it was wet and nearly everyone - including Schumacher - went off.

As for seating positions, at least he can get in the car - he's had so many problems with his height!

Conquest/Wilson might be the sleeper pick of the season. Jourdan/Rahal was my pick last year, and they did pretty good for themselves.

Conquest had some good showings with Haberfeld, whose resume wasn't close to Wilson's. As far as "the little guy" goes, they have a decent history of doing quite a bit with not so much.

I would not be at all surprised if at the end of the season, these guys have won a couple of races.

Carol - there was a debate raging on another board, do you know if investors get a cut of any earnings he makes driving, or is just F1?

The deal for investors is that all of Justin's earnings from motorsport - F1, Champ Cars, whatever - go into the company, Justin Wilson plc. Justin gets paid a basic salary - I think it was 50,000 pounds last year. When there's enough money in the pot, all the investors get back double the amount they invested. After that, a percentage (can't remember the figure offhand) of his earnings gets shared out among the investors. That continues for 10 years, i.e. until 2012 (assuming Justin is still in the business by then). So far, obviously, there's been no payback. Almost all the money invested went to pay Minardi for his F1 seat last year. The move to Jaguar was a deal between Jaguar and Minardi - Justin wasn't paid for either drive. He's also having to bring funding to Mi-Jack Conquest. Hopefully, one of these days, someone will actually pay him to race, as he deserves! :)
