View Full Version : OWRS To "Hold" The 2004 Season?

This was posted on the RacingOne (Champweb) forum ...

"We have a pretty solid source reporting that Newman-Haas and Rahal will announce plans to jump to the IRL in a matter of days and that OWRS will "hold" the 04 season and plan for 2005. They are uncomfirmed by the parties in question at this time. SPIKE TV has also chosen not to comment on the pending deal, as I phoned there this morning in hopes of landing an interview with its programming chief. We will report something firm as soon as it becomes confirmed."

Logically, one would think that if they fail to field a series this year, that there will be no fans left for a series next year.

Could this be the end? Did OWRS buy a turkey, and how much is this going to cost them?

I guess they must have forgotten to tell Herdez, what with them announcing a driver for their second car......

However AR1 is downgrading the rumor about NH and Rahal to 'speculation' and is about to go 'false'.

Whatever, we're just fans.

Not that anyone cares anymore.

Actually, this could be a good idea - get all ducks in a row before proceeding...

I've thought about this since the bankruptcy hearing... this just may work!

I'd really appreciate it if you didn't foul this place up with your goofy advertising for your stupid radio program.

ps: Crash makes John Kernan look like my favorite motorsports radio air personality.

That's not nice.

What took you so long to say it?

DJ, you need to update your bio. Or have you not been paying attention the last 3 years?

It'll happen in '04 or it won't happen at all.

I'm confident I'll be sitting at the Gearbox up at RA come August eating a couple eggers during the morning practice on Satuday.

You didn't get the bankruptcy right at 7th Gear either. Batting 1000.

It's a terrible idea and e-v-e-r-y-o-n-e knows it. It would lead to teams going over to the Indy Racing League. It would cancel contracts that OWRS has taken under their wing. It would halt any momentum. I could go on and on but I would just be preaching common sense to the choir, and the choir should already know that halting the season is wrong wrong wrong.

I was to lazy to type it out...and I didn't want to be labeled a lemming ;) I'm sure the earl would scoop up as many of those contracts as possible...and I couldn't blame the promoters for signing them on either.

You stop you die, simple as that.

I'm with rocket, eggers in the morning during the ChampCars warmup.

This would be a stupid thing to do. Those "holds" on TRAC and Premier 1 and US F3 sure did wonders for those series eh?

Good point Sean. ChampCar needs to hit the track this year no matter how rag tag.

There is still a month until the green flag flys. I'm sure there will be plenty of 'happenings' from our camp in the days ahead.

They didn't go through all that hassle just to let Adrian Fernadez bring it to an end. Give me a freakin break.

OK when does the OC radio program begin so that I can give the REAL fan perspective? I would gladly take the traitors to task instead of groveling at their feet. Oh and by the way, I'm not an "expert" I just play one on the internet!!

And Friday morning too, for that matter. Oh, and Milwaukee also. But I guess the sun will be going down in that case. At any rate, beer will most likely be involved. And Champcars. It's all good in the neighborhood.

Is that motorsports show still on with the old guy and all the women dressed in red and yellow Vegas showgirl outfits with feathers on their heads?

Good lord, that was awful.

Sometimes I wish 7G was still around. There was a thread there that you ran away and hid from... You want CART/ChampCar dead and you've said as much; "Bury them!" ring a bell?

For you to come in here and spout "advice" is laughable. We're not as stunned as your fan-base.

And whether or not there is any truth to these rumors, I think we are all forgetting that there is more chance of Mumbles having an ephiphany and quitting earl in favor of ChampCar then there is PLN fielding an earl ride.

That is dumbest rumor I've seen in a while. OWRS is going to lose 3 cars, put the season on hold for a year and then they are going to come back? At least make it realistic. N-H and Rahal are leaving. OWRS is going to be forced to end it all. Regroup for 2005...as other have already said, it happens this year or it is all over.
