Latest Road Rage......

Twice in the past 6 weeks I've had people chase after me only because I was going fast......This is a new one on me.....Now you have people mad at me just because I was going fast.....I didn't chop anybody off or anything....I just blew by them minding my own business. The funny thing is this has happened only on the same run to my gig....both cars chased me off the freeway then took off after we got on the street. The guy last night was weaving and fishtaling next to me after we got off the freeway. Has this happened to anybody here? (Maybe I should start leaving early because I only save 4 minutes driving 80 as opposed to 70.)

Usually 18-20ish guys in Hotted up Jap numbers in my experience - & their girlfriends are usually in the car...

I commute up and down 60 miles of Interstate 95 in a 2001 Mitsi Eclipse GT. It is very common for other sporty cars to engage in 'challenges' toward me. I'll see them weaving aggressively from lane to lane in my rear view mirror and then when they spot me, if they want to 'engage' they'll either fly up two inches from my bumper, while I'm already doing 80 (the norm for all) or fly up next to me and break heavy so as to be parallel and then hit it which is like the 'flying green'. I admit that I do take them up on their challenge occasionaly if there is a very light traffic load, as I truly do enjoy showing Civics, Cavaliers, Golfs and old Probes and the many Focus's (Foci?) the back end of my 'clipse. Every one of them gives a smile and a thumbs up though as opposed to when I was in high school, street drag racing on the weekends, fist fights were common place.

Wow, we do the "engage" thing a whole different way down here in Texas. Usually a couple of beers and a dance, a cheap motel room and the "engage" thing is on!!

I get people trying to race me all the time in my G. Can't stand it. I will be more than happy to race someone on a track in a controlled environment, but I'm not risking my life or my car with all of the other idiots on the road.

On another note though, I'm going to start getting serious road rage soon because of the following:

a) people that insist on driving with their fog lights on in broad daylight or when there's no fog to be seen anywhere and

b) people flashing their brights at me constantly. I can't help that my car came with Xenon headlights, my brights are not on so turn your darn fog lights off and quite flashing your lights at me :flame:

That's funny! My dad (retired down in FL) flashes his lights at the Xenon equiped cars. Not because he doesn't understand that they aren't high beams, but rather just because he doesn't like them. :rofl:

First, I am a BMW owner--so the rest of you don't take this as a slam on BMW owners generally--but, a I agree with you completely. A lot of BMW's run around with the driving lights on ALL the time. They are physically distracting to oncoming traffic, and totally unneeded most of the time.

When my headlights are on (xenon) my fogs are also on. Visibility is better and they look effin' cool :cool:

I never turn on the rear fog light, unless I'm actually driving in fog. Looks too much like a brake light to the uninitiated... and looks too much like I have a rear brake light missing or out to cops (its only a single rear indicator) and I don't want to get pulled over for something like that.

I think I should explain......I drive a green 93 Ford Escort Wagon.....maybe the anger stems from the fact that it is not a Bmw or Rice rocket.....They've never seen an Escort driven this fast.

My Mini Cooper "S" has xenon lights. I also have rally lights. They are too freakin' bright to even use unless Im in rural Indiana. The headlights are speed sensitive. I do a little Interstate driving, and it does seem to rile the oncoming traffic (which is a median and quite some distance away) I try to be carefull in reguards to headlight's.

That being said, pitty the poor fool who comes up behind me with his brights on, and goes around me......

Now, on another item. Mini's are very small cars. Around here, the standard vehicle is the "SUV" and many of these slackjaw's think its cool to almost rear end a smaller car when stopping in a line for a light. Im aware of it, and quite bothered by this new method of being an idiot with a car.

The government is always wanting to do something for those who cant do for themselves. Why dont they make it illegal to use a cell phone from a moving car? How many have died? I think it is the biggest plague in motoring right now, on par with DWI. There are no laws against it.... but there should be.

The politician from South Dakota who had the hit and run with the motorcycle was a joke. The hockey player in Atlanta who crashed his Ferrari and killed his team mate was a joke.

Think twice before doing anything stupid. A friend of mine from the Internet did a number on some punk with a lowered Honda. While good for his ego, and crushing the punks, they did wind up in court.

I'm not going to defend the fog-light-running-all-the-time BMW drivers. There are just too many of them. I will say that the fog light bulbs on my BMW have only been powered up about three times in the past 5 years, though.

I also dislike DRLs. They take away the motorcyclist's edge.

What's Dany Heatley got to do with driving with a Cell Phone? Or were you referring to Driving Under the Influence? You speek all farney over in the States. Here in Oz, it's illegal to talk on ur phone while driving, any idiot can see how that's gunna cause an accident.

Just got a cell phone on Tuesday. As an experiment, the second call I made on it I decided to try driving down the street about a mile from a gas station to the Ralphs....just to see what it was like. Oh my god.....I felt like half my brain was shut off to the driving, and I definitely felt impaired. I can drive drunk and not be that impaired! I'm surprised there aren't more accidents with people talking on the phone. People say "oh well get the headset" but it's the conversation that is distracting. Still, holding that phone up to my ear was very distracting. It was an experiment only, and the next time I do that while driving it will be to call 911 to report some crime or other emergency I'm witnessing. It definitely should be ILLEGAL.

I see you are making the common communications mistake of actually paying attention to what the other person is saying, and worse yet, thinking about what you are saying before you say it. You obviously didn't spend enough time on the 7G political threads to learn proper communication technique... :D
