Does anyone have any old CART races on tape or know where i could obtain such races. Anything from 1990 to 2003 would be great. I am a die hard fan. That is when i first started watching racing. I would love to rewatch some of those old classics. Thanks

I don't know about here, but over at TF there are a number of people that have quite a collection of Cart races dating back pretty far on tape. You might try there if no one here or anywhere else has anything.

It would be nice if some of the people who have these old races on VHS would transfer them to VCD. Then we might see some sort of trading community spring up. They could be traded by Bit Torrent or by mail. Heck, DVD burners are getting cheap enough now you could trade them on DVD cheaper than you could on VHS.

If anybody knows of anybody converting these to DVD or VCD I'd love to know about it.

Would you pay for them?

I make VCD/SVCD from VHS all the time- mostly ancient concert recordings of, ahem, indeterminate origin. I trade, but I don't sell.

Anybody got an old race they want in VCD format, drop me a line. I'd do it just to be able to add a copy to my library, but only under the condition that they not be sold under any circumstances.

I've got almost all the CART and F1 races on tape from around 1997 or so, and many back to the late '80's. I have a few racing movies, documentaries, and other types of races on tape too. But, I've learned that loaning them out is not such a good idea. They don't always come back (and you know who you are out there).

I have a few tapes, but the quality of most of them is at best fair.

The oldest race I have on tape is the 1988 Michigan 500, because that was the first Cart/IndyCar race that I attended.

But the quality is not too good, VHS tapes start to degrade after so many years. :(

Isn't selling these races that are taped off TV illegal? I thought ESPN/Speed/CART owned all the copyrights and doesn't allow rebroadcast or distribution without permission.

Any attempt to rebroadcast this telecast without the express written permission ..... blah blah blah.

Yep, it's illegal to profit from the sale of any of those races by selling copies of them.

Now, you could sell a previously recorded tape or DVD to whoever you want. Just deny you knew what was on it. ;)

I have been collecting race tapes and have converted all of them to VCD's. If anyone is interested in trading, check out my list and email me:

http://hometown.aol.com/dironstarr/Racelist.html

Also, please look at the list of races I want, if you have any of these please email me:

Lastly, I have figured out (and have done it) how to download the CART races on CART.com. You really lose alot of quality when you encode them to VCD to though. You lose the video-audio synch too.
