CART CHAMP CAR MOBILIZES ITS ASSETS TO ASSIST IN CALIFORNIA WILDFIRE RELIEF EFFORT

With Sunday’s King Taco 500 cancelled Tuesday by California Speedway due to concerns over the spread of the California wildfires, the CART Champ Car community has entered the race to help those affected by the fires and is mobilizing its assets as well as those of its teams to aid the relief effort.

The series and its teams have already committed to the relief effort in a number of different ways, including making the offer to local government officials to set up hospitality units at evacuation centers to feed those displaced by the fires. The food that teams had already ordered for the weekend has been donated in order to feed those affected by the situation. The state-of-the-art CART Medical Unit, which is a traveling trauma center that is on hand at all Champ Car races, has also been made available as a way to help treat victims of the fires.

“Despite what was released yesterday by California Speedway, we are very aware of the situation in Southern California and we intend to aid the local population in any way that we can,” said CART President and CEO Christopher R. Pook. “We have a number of assets in place and are offering all of them to local authorities to help the cause.”

The CART community is also in the hills of Southern California fighting the blazes as well. Four members of the Simple Green CART Champ Car Safety Teams have been active in battling the fires, two of them since the outbreak of the fires with two others joining after the 13-hour flight from Australia on Monday.

California natives John O’Brien of Sierra Madre, Lars Hanson of Apple Valley, Greg Hitchcock of Santa Clarita and Lloyd Mokler of Long Beach are all working with local firefighters to help extinguish the flames, O’Brien and Hitchcock joining the fight after their Australia trip for last week’s Lexmark Indy 300.

Very cool. They have a lot of resources they can use in the relief effort.

I hate to make everything a PR stunt, but too bad CART isn't getting more press about that.

I know if that was NASCAR, it would be plastered all over the news.

They would plaster NASCAR everywhere in a situation like this not because they really thought NASCAR was doing something good. They would simply capitalize on it because it would make them money by associating themselves with NAScash. That's what it's all about. CART makes no one money so CART won't get a blip or a nod no matter what they do. Grease the wheel or go f_ _ _ yourself is sadly the world.
