Player's plans to retain its full stake in the Forsythe team, too, even though incoming Canadian legislation will prohibit the tobacco giant from advertising on the cars.

Player's will simply be more aggressive in exploiting advertising avenues permissible under the new law.

"They have a program lined up for next year," said Tracy, hinting additional team sponsorship is also being sought.

"That will be announced after the season is over. And everything is in step for Player's to they get their maximum exposure."

I wonder if they'll do something to what U.S. Tobacco does with Supercross (and probably other sports too). They use their "one motorsports sponsorship" with Skoal in NHRA.

However, at other sporting events, there is "U.S. Tobacco" signage. They also have booths set up (with full Skoal Branding) to sign people up for their mailing list and to hand out coupons and/or samples. They simply put these booths in places where they will not be seen on television.

Player's could probably do much of the same. (Or, their folks might just suddenly find that a Player's logo makes a fine fashion statement, and just decide to wear them whenever they go out in public.)

This is good! . Most importantly, maybe this means "Overhead at the Track" will continue!

For clarification Player's is a brand of Imperial Tobacco Canada a wholly owned subsidiary of British American Tobacco. BAT also owns F1's BAR, Hollywood in Brazil and soon a big chunk of RJ Reynolds. ITC actually owns the Player's team. They've setup 2 subsidiaries (http://www.imperialtobaccocanada.com/newsroom/newsroom.mcml?locale=en_CA&article=/releases/September2003/30/c6482.html/66747-0) to continue marketing in Canada. I would guess they will continue to use motorsports to sell in more tobacco friendly markets like South Korea, China, Turkey etc.

RJ Reynold's is the one that will own the majority of Reynold's American, 58% vs. BAT's 42%

Ank the other 58% of Reynold's American will be listed on the NYSE. All but a fraction of it will be held by institutional investors. RJR will no longer exist. BAT gets to appoint the CEO and management team.
