Looks like Walker Racing will field a third car (#25) for Michael Valiente, bringing the starting grid to 20.

A tough place for a rookie to cut his teeth in a champcar. Best wishes for a good and safe run.

Yow! I agree with pchall- Fontana is not where I'd want a rookie to run his first Champ Car race. Too much potential for really bad stuff to happen.

Is this to meet a minimum car count?

Its not that bad of an idea. Big oval with cars well spaced apart. He can find his bearings and race a little.

Fontana is probably the easiest place on the schedule for a rookie. It's the only place that made a mediocre driver like Casey Mears (who is a good guy) look anything like Champ Car material.

The biggest question is here for some reporters is how does he look in his Sparcos?

I'm very happy for Michael if this true, he deserves it more than anyone in Atlantic IMO. I was fortunate to interview him in Trois Rivieres and he was very personable. Very quick on the track too... but, like the others, I'm a bit concerned for his safety, being a rookie at those speeds, racing wheel to wheel... especially given recent events in the other league. I'm just not a fan of these tracks period.

as far as superspeedways go this race has undoubtedly more rookies than any previous superspeedway race, Valiente won't be alone

Hopefully he won't have to dodge Rodolfo Chicane.

You are forgetting the 1996 Marion County Fair Classic presented by State Fair brand Corn Dogs and the Pork Producers of America.
