But if he's willing to risk his neck it's a very cool retro move. I wouldn't advise it if there were a race for the lead coming down to the checker, however.

Yeah. Of course, I could have just reposted the giant desktop sized photo and used up more bandwidth, but I was trying to be considerate. You're welcome. :p

That was really cool! Thanks for the photo. When did Swintel come back to the flagman position?

Just for this race... It was a special deal cooked up as a tribute to the old way of doing it. The regular flag guy also waved the checkers from the flag stand.

Did they let everybody know that he was on the track? It seemed as if Tracy swung by to make a close pass by the pitwall in celebration to the team and then saw Jim on the track and adjusted his line.

I hope that they didn't just do this and that if it was planned that the teams reminded the drivers about it as the race was drawing near to the end.

Made for a great photo op in front of 220,000 hysterical Mexican fans. Not a bad ending for the 400,000 folks that turned out for the weekend either...

I love the fact he's in a suit as well. Kinda scary but a nice throwback to the old days. Perhaps PT drove so close for the photo op.

I'm going to have to buttonhole Jim at Fontana... ask him if his life was flashing before his eyes as Tracy came flying towards him ;)

Great guy, class act and now we know he's got some HUGE stones too!

I'm watching PT come screaming down the track, Jim stepping further in, and I'm thinking, "Watch your toes...watch your toes, Jim...good grief, man, WATCH YOUR TOES!!!"  :D

I like that CART is doing some little things to recall traditions of the past. Having the podium celebration on the starter's stand (and allowing the fans onto the start/finish straight) at Road America is another cool one.

Kudos to Jim for a great move!

(though I still think Champcars should do standing starts)
