Mika Salo recently spoke to South Florida leaders about high speed rail on behalf of Bombardier's train division.

Link fixed for ya PC.

Now for my opinion on the matter.

To those Florida politicians.... run. Run as fast as you can away from Bombardier.

A company famous for getting government money for everything they do.... Canadian company, builds everything from rail trains, private jet aircraft, Ski-doos and Sea-doos, military equipment, and a tonne of other things.

If I was Canada's Prime Minister though, first thing i'd do is inform Bombardier that if they want government monies, I'd seriously require them to sponsor racing in this country on a large scale, instead of giving monies to put their logo on the side of an ugly pagoda.

Oh yeah, i'd lower taxes and improve quality of life and so on and so forth.

And now, from the 'completely unimportant in our daily lives' file...

the history on Bombardier! ;)

Including a short 'Heritage Minutes' video about the man. (Heritage Minutes is the Canadian answer to the US's Schoolhouse rock America Rock, without the animation, cool music or anything that you'd want to learn.... what was my point here? Anyways.... )

And to turn it full circle and show how this can be CART related and therefore prove i'm NOT hijacking PC's thread (i'm really not, i'm just bored ;))

Another Heritage Minute about Expo 67 in Montreal.

http://www.histori.ca/minutes/minute.do?ID=10228

It describes the building (yes, building) of Ile Notre-Dame which of course is home to Le Circuit Gilles Villeneuve, racetrack for F1 and CART.

Told ya I could bring it all together :p :D

See what happens when you get a late nap and you're up all night?

Clinton gave em money for 150mph turbojet powered trains... might as well use em in the US :D

(it's not maglev or bullets but what better in the land of nascar than something not so cutting edge)

What is the connection between Salo and Bombardier? Them being the "Preferred Private Aviation Solution" of Champ Car seems a tenuous connection to have him doing something like this.

[edit: fix spelling]

I think its just cross promotion between their aviation and train divisions. Bombardeir is the official "Aviation Solution" (http://www.cart.com/About/Sponsors.asp) for Cart.

Salo probably just happened to be an available driver.

Please note that while Bombardier bought a billboard on that 'pagoda', it wasn't Cornish or another IRL hack standing up for them in a business presentation. It was a CART driver with an international perspective who just happened to be on the podium at Miami weeks before...

I believe Pollock was hobnobbing with the Bombardier folks during the Miami/USGP weekend.

Maybe that was the Salo connection.
