The traditional/big race is the Granja Viana 500, Brazil’s most traditional Karting event. Usually the field has some 60 teams (each with 3 to 10 drivers) and lasts more than 11 hours.

The race is scheduled for November 8th.

Juan Pablo Montoya has confirmed he will participate. His team will feature Antonio Pizzonia and probably Danilo Dirani (the soon to be South American F3 champ).

Rubens Barrichello is the 2 time defending champ of the race, along with Tony Kanaan and Felipe Massa. This year his team will have a new driver: Michael Andretti’s son, Marco.

Alex Zanardi has also confirmed he will take part in the GV 500, in Jimmi Vasser's team, which also features Oriol Servia and Michel Jourdain Jr. (obviously, Vasser's team will be allowed to use two Karts as AZ's Kart will have a special kit to allow applying throttle/break by hand.

More famous drivers are expected to confirm their participation in the next few days.

Nicolas Todt, son of Jean Todt (Ferrari's manager) also confirmed he will be driving in the 500, along with Duda Massa (Felipe's brother).

Field keeps getting interesting. This should be a good one!

Aren't the Giafone brothers a contending team in this event every year? Amazing assembly of drivers to bad more events can't be organized like this.

Here are pictures from last years race.

I wish this was televised. It's the only venue where you can get drivers from all series around the world on equal footing...

The race is this weekend!

AZ posted a 57sec lap after one afternoon of practice. He made several changes to his Kart over the day, and got up to speed very quickly, and his Kart is strictly inside the 190Kg minimum weight.

AZ shows great sense of humour: "I was in the hospital when Tony (Kanaan) brought my sneakers, and he said he wouldnt give them back because I wouldnt need it! Thats why everytime I see him I ask the little thieve for my shoes back!"

Vasser: "we're ready to win!" (commenting about the supremacy of Rubens Barrichello's team).

Past winners of the GV 500:

1997
Guilherme Rocha/Juliano Bertuccell/João Bertuccelli/Christiano Rocha/Júlio Campos/Felipe Massa

1998
Rubens Barrichello/Christian Fittipaldi/Tony Kanaan

1999
Danilo Dirani/Felipe Maluhy/Thiago Cusin/Sergio Jimenez/Alan Hellmeister

2000
Rubens Barrichello/Christian Fittipaldi/Tony Kanaan

2001
Rubens Barrichello/Mario Haberfeld/Tony Kanaan

2002
Rubens Barrichello/Felipe Massa/Tony Kanaan

And here's a detail of Zanardi's Kart, with throttle in the steering wheel (left hand side) and braking with the right-side pedal:

Good race.

RB and JPM teams ran into trouble. RB was penalized for getting a push, 5mins. Then ended up 18 laps down in 13th place.

After a good start JPM`s team suffered a broken throttle cable, and fell down the order, finishing in a lowly 17th spot.

Win went to C Fitti (who was using his own brand-name chassis made specially for the US market and designed in Italy). This was CF`s 3rd win (and teamate Haberfeld`s 2nd), so not a fluke result at all.

Zanardi/Servia/Vasser/Jourdain team finished a respectable 4th place, followed by Moreno`s team in 5th.

The race lasted 10h43min.
