...especially if you have a wife and 3 kids under 8 years old? The Grand Canyon is too far (for my lazy @zz) to even be considered. Leavin tomorrow and staying for a week. Anyone know what the "must dos" and "must sees" are in Phoenix/Scottsdale?

Thank God the forecasted highs in Phoenix for the next several days are only in the low 100s... :saywhat:

If you go out past Apache Junction, and take a left on some road, it makes a scenic loop. Goes past some "ghost town" and winds around a lake and you go through another ghost town and end up by another big lake and on the way back you pass by some big mine, copper I think.

I know that isn't very detailed but, that is one thing we did. If you don't want to go all the way to the Canyon, at least go up to Oak Creek Canyon/Sedona.

I was there in March '01 so I went to Firebird and saw all the Atlantics teams test. That was cool.

Lots of Golf. Seeing the desert is cool but, like the canyon, once you look at it for about 10 minutes, the thrill is gone.

OK, I just took the time to look at mapquest.

Tortilla Flat is the area I am talking about.

http://www.mapquest.com/maps/refreshmap.adp?mqmap.x=274&mqmap.y=221&click=center&rand=7606

If you don't like what you see between the first lake and Tortilla Flat, TURN AROUND. I made the mistake of making the loop out to Goverment Hill, then down to Globe and back to Apache Junction.

It was nice and differant but once you go past Tortilla Flat, the road narrows and there isn't a place to turn around and your stuck seeing more desert than you ever dreamed of.

If you don't mind driving down to Tucson (2 hours), there is an awesome "Desert Museum" which is really a zoo full of desert animals (some that would surprise you). Desert Museum (http://www.desertmuseum.org/)

Very good for kids.

Also in Tucson is the Pima Air Museum (http://www.pimaair.org/) , which is a really cool outdoor display of a TON of aircraft. Military, an old Air Force One, and alot of other stuff.

Also very good for a family visit.

I lived in Phoenix for a year. I can't think of anything. Drive to the top of the mountains I guess. You can buy turquoise Native American jewelry up there.
Now, if you can leave the wife and kids at the hotel...I can point you to some top notch eh hm, gentleman clubs.

Warlock, there is a huge monolithic dome dream home in Sedona. The couple living there seems to have a home-based spirituality/New Age-y business - not sure if I'd knock on the door if that's not your cup of tea!! :D But the place looks cool!!! Here's a link to a pic:

And here's a link to the couple's home/business site:

Make it little more symmetrical, paint it pink and it would look like the Booby Trap in Orlando. :D

I'm goin' there for Anal Ventor's wedding. There will be a bachelor party Thursday night. I may need some experienced reviews ;). My hotel is close to the Camelback Rd/Scottsdale rd intersection. Ventor lives up on the north border of town, near Deer Valley Airport. Anything close to or in between thos places would be great... PM me if the details are a bit too lurid. :D

The Vent-man is getting married?!

The only experience I can relate in Phoenix is how hot it was between bars.
