Just saw photos from Sebring testing on AR1, and Tracy is running #3. I guess that means CART did have the cajones to re-assign Penske's numbers after all. :D

Anyone know if Carp will keep his usual number, or will he be using #2 now?

Penske only had the numbers for a year, per the rule. I am glad someone took them, to poke him in the eye.

It would be a shame to waste good numbers on bad nostalgia.

Call me sentimental, but Pimski/CaptainLiverSpots/ManFromGlad will always remind me of number 2s.

Why does Paul Tracy have a Players driver's suit with a FedEx Championship Series logo on it?

I refuse to pay money to see that site...

And, shouldn't Bruno have first dibs on #2?

Or somewhere else.......

Seriously though, as a Canuck, I love seeing him in the Player's Blue!!!!!!!!!!!!!:D

P.S. Is this PT's way of telling Helio Castroneves where to go and say, "Enjoy turning left!!!" Awe the irony.... :p;)

The "Real Winner of the 86th INDY 500" uses the old number of the unofficial second place winner.......

Well, honestly - who does he have to beat?

The only competition Tracy's got is his teammate, Fernandez, and the Newman-Haas drivers.

I can't see any of these new teams winning a title in their first year.

If the 2003 CART Champ doesn't come from either Newman/Haas or Player's, I'll be stunned.

I'll go on record as saying Tracy won't win.

1. New team
2. Often qualifies poorly
3. Has a bunch of newbies in his way when he qualifies mid-pack... Tracy and drivers with inexperience... I smell concrete.

I will, but only if Tony Cicale will be his race engineer. Does anyone know if you can get Vegas odds on Tracy? I wouldn't mind puttin' up $100 to make me more pissed off when he crashes out of a race! ;)

CART gave up the practice of assigning car numbers according to the finishing order in points (for franchise teams only) after 1993 or so, if I remember correctly. Of course, the champ get #1. CART cited fan confusion with changing numbers, and the teams could not carry the merchandise over from year to year.

Of course, the car numbers were much larger and more prominent then. Now, the numbers are much smaller.

Be positive my dear WB. He will give them a push, they'll go off track and PT carries on to win. Will definately teach the rookies to drive, and in a hurry!!!! :p ;)

That's the thing, RaceChic, I *am* being positive.

I do not like Paul Tracy.

Call me traiterous if you wish, but I never have. Save one day in May last year.

So, positive news for me is Tracy in gravel traps, Tracy stalling the engine in the pits, and so on. :)
