The "Pacer". This is the clown that runs up fast into the safety zone behind you. You move over to let them by. Then they promptly slow down. Hey moron this isn't Smokey and the Bandit and I'm not Burt Reynolds. Buy a damn radar detector. :flame:

The "Oblivion". Puttering along in the left hand lane about 20 mph below the 85th percentile. They like to position themselves in the blind spot of the car on the right for added safety. That way they can block the entire road and not be seen. The 15-20 cars stacked up behind them are of no concern. I thought the idea was to move to the right for faster traffic? :saywhat: I used to abhor tailgating now I get on these retards bumpers and blast them with the lights-- that moves them.

my biggest pet peeve: people who don't understand the concept of the acceleration and deceleration lane of the highway.

Yo retard! Get up to full speed before you lane change onto the highway, not after!

And why is it, when people lane change into the left lane to pass, they can do it on cruise control and not lose speed, but the second they find their exit, they have to slow down on the highway before lane changing into the deceleration lane....

SUV drivers.

Either they're driving too fast for conditions because, hey, they're invincible, or they're tooling along in the fast lane blocking all traffic because they have an oh-so-important phone call to make.

A-holes.

I hate SUVs.

This one really grinds my ass. Jerks who will pull out to pass into the fast lane passing a car doing 65 with their cruise control set on 67.

OK, I hope this doesn't take too long. There's this stop sign that I make a right turn at every day. The street onto which I'm turning is 3 lanes each way. The rightmost lane (the one into which I turn) ends about 200 yards up the road after I turn. This means, 95% of the time, there is NEVER a car in that lane, as oncoming trafiic has already realized the lane ends and has moved left.

EVERY day, I sit behind morons who won't turn, because traffic is coming, EVEN THOUGH THEY HAVE A CLEAR LANE INTO WHICH TO TURN!!!

The absolute worst is when someone pulls out in front of you EVEN THOUGH THERE ISN'T A SINGLE FRIGGIN CAR IN SIGHT BEHIND YOU then proceeds to drive 5-10 mph under the speed limit. Actually, the absolute worst is when they do all that then turn at the very next road. You couldn't have possibly waited three seconds for me to get by then pull out?

Just to be clear, not EVERYONE that drives an SUV is a jerk. Of course, there will be those that disagree with my personal driving habits, which is why my vehicle is SOOOOOOO much bigger than theirs, as I can intimidate the crap outta them. :D

BTW Grrl, driving too fast for conditions is only an excuse if you have to stop. ;)

But seriously folks, everyone here makes good points, I drive sorta fast in anything, but I WON'T weave thru heavy traffic at 20 or 30 mph over the limit, nor will I speed in town either. I WILL drive faster in the country however.

If we spent as much time training and busting bad drivers as we do moaning about making cars safer, we would be far an away much better off.

Just my opinion of course.

My ass is completely ground as well... 'specially when semis do it, usually to pass another semi. So basically you take the length of the semi being passed at roughly 60', add a safety cushion of about 50' behind and in front of that same semi, add the length of the passing semi twice, and you end up with 280'+/-. At a difference in cruising speeds of 1-2 mph, this pass takes approximately 1 1/2 to 3 minutes to take place. And they have to make this pass before you pass them. For that 1 1/2 - 3 minutes I wouldn't have a problem killing them.

I commute 65 miles there and back and also have observed the sometimes bizarre driving habits of others. I go about 35 miles on 95 and it's quite a race course until we hit traffic up north.

There's the 'Intimidators', the guy in the fast lane who flys up two inches off your bumper even if I am doing 85mph just so when I get over, they go 86mph.

There's the "Ego-Leader", the guy who is only doing 70 in the fast lane when everyone behind him wants to do 80 (70 on 95 is sloooow) and when you try to pass on the right, HE SPEEDS UP!!!!!!

I also notice that I get different reactions to my actions depending on which one of my vehicles I take in. In my sports car, everyone wants to 'race' me. I thought that this was my own perception, but when the missus took it in a few weeks ago, she made the same observation. When I drive my pickup I don't get the aggressiveness.

I hate commuting.

I'm with Warlock and mapguy, but along the same lines, it grinds me when I have my cruise set on 70 and try to pass a car doing 60-65. Then he realizes he's driving slow and decides to speed up to 70. All the while, some guy doing 80 comes flying up on my rear end and gets honked off cause he has to slow down. Well you know what? I'm already speeding. I'm not going to speed up to 80 to let you by because I know I'll be the one to get the ticket.

EDIT - BTW: for those of you not used to driving on I-75 in Ohio, I triple dog dare you to drive over 70. ;)

I agree. It's not the speeding that bothers me, I drive over the limit all the time, but try to be a "safe" speeder. It's the stupid people on the road that makes it dangerous.

Deceleration lanes.

I'm in the right lane, waiting for the deceleration lane to begin for my exit.

Bozo the clown is in front of me (no offense, T7).

The lane begins, I get over. Bozo remains in right lane and begins to slow, but makes no attempt to get over.

I, on the other hand, have yet to begin to slow (being a far superior driver), so my vehicle gains ground on Bozo's slowing car and is now beside it.

At nearly the last possible instant, Bozo looks over and is shocked that the deceleration lane is blocked, and gives me the finger.

I hate bozo.

I didn't give them permission, get out of my way.

Did you ever notice that if somebody is going slower than you they are a moron and if they are going faster than you they are an idiot?

Agree 100%. Ya know, a lot of people over here think it's rude, but in Europe your tooling along at 220 or so, (kilometers, about a buck 30 roughly) in the middle lane cause the trucks and stuff are in the right lane, you pull out to pass a slower car, and along comes a LARGE car doing 250 or thereabouts, flashes the high beams at ya, (which pisses me off to no end here) everybody moves outta the way and you seem to move along without the brake checks and general screwups like we have here.

No worries there 'Lock. In fact, the Wyoming State Patrol was kind enough to verify that one of my trucks was doing 132 in a 75, actually coming down the mountain into Cheyenne.

I had the ECM's slammed at 80 on every one of them, but some of the guys went to the engine shop and paid someone under the table to take the governors back off.

So, should I ever endeavour (like it's gonna really happen ;) ) to slide across 24 one night when you're on the way back from the porn shop and I happen to run up behind you, you're gonna stumble as bad as the night we met at the loop at Watkins Glen. :D

I hate the people who expect to fit into a flow of traffic on the motorway doing 100kmph (about 65mph i think) while they are only doing 40kmph

Or the folks that only travel 70kmph anywhere, weather it be in town or on the motorway/freeway(watever you folks call it) - They get pissed off and pass you when obeying the speed limit in town, then you just pass them back when the speed limit gets bumped upto 100.....

The slightly past middle-aged Wal-mart clones who look at you coming directly at them while you travel down the highway, creep past the red light, look at you again, then slowly pull right out into your lane, while you are twenty yards from bearing directly into them at 55 mph, causing you to SLAM on your breaks, coincidentaly causing the computer in your back seat to slam up against the back of your seat, and lay on the horn so they even know you are there, while they hear your horn blaring and still don't know where that strange loud noise is coming from, then you give them the big 'ol middle finger, she sees you doing it, then waves like "What's your problem, what did I do wrong?"

Yeah, they irritate me.

Driving habits of the dumb indeed.

Lately here in Whittier, the home of the bad drivers (and the people that shot the poor SF Giants fan last Friday night in Dodger Stadium) the latest is pulling out in front of oncoming traffic, and making sure you are in the lane of the one driver that is coming (which is me). Even when there are three lanes of traffic to pull out into, there is no looking, no stopping...A Suburban driver did it last weekend. (I was the only car coming too) I've started slowing down for red lights earlier than I used to also. Since I've started doing this, it's amazing how many red lights I beat, by not coming to a complete stop so fast, I end up blowing by all those people that just had to race up to that red light. But what I want to know is...why are people in such a hurry to get to that red light, they will pass me to get to it, or tailgate me as if I am a slow driver. Then as soon as the light goes green, I take off, and that person that was tailgating me to the light, who I thought was in such a hurry, is now (within the space of 3-4 seconds, some 20 car lengths behind me!!!! What is up with that???!!! The other thing I've noticed, is drivers' absolute lack of depth perception and ability to tell which lane is moving faster. It can happen on the streets or the freeway, it is when you have several lanes of moving traffic, I'm stuck behind somebody, but am in the lane moving fastest....that car racing up behind me, will dart in to the lane to the right of me, only to get held up by slower traffic. They can't figure it out, they can't see it. I'm fortunate enough to have spent alot of time racing go karts, doing racing games, so I developed excellent depth perception and reaction times. It's interesting to watch the morons out there who don't have those skills. The ones racing me to the red light also will pick the slower lane on the right, when they see me slowing down early and get bogged down behind the slowest traffic, while I cruise away at the green light, they get stuck behind ten cars or so. Hilarious.

I guess this doesn't apply to RichK, BUT.... ;)

There seems to be some sort of syndrome that middle-aged males contract when they buy a black BMW. No one on the road is allowed to pass them OR drive slower than them. Without fail, if I'm doing 80 in the left lane while in the act of passing someone, if there's some jackass that runs up on my tail doing 100, then slams on the brakes and flashes me the brights, it's a black BMW. I used to think it was just coincidence, or maybe I only noticed this type of behavior when it WAS a black BMW, but after paying closer attention for a couple years, it's absolutely true.

If I'm doing 80-85, and I pull into the PASSING lane to PASS someone before moving back into the middle lane, you can wait. And if you run up on me and flash your brights, you WILL wait. And wait. And wait some more.:D I'm an extremely courteous driver. I don't pull in front of people going faster than me, and I don't get mad if someone cuts me off as I don't have to touch the brakes. However, if you speed up after seeing that I'm pulling into the passing lane, all bets are off.

The hotheads are fun to play with, too. If one of them ends up on my bumper and just can't wait for me to pull back into the middle lane, I'll wait a few extra seconds until they get impatient and try to pass me on the right. Then I'll signal and move over and make them hit the brakes again. That usually honks them off. When they finally pass me and give the enraged red-faced salute, I blow them a kiss. That always steams their clam. :D

All you have to do is not drive like a dick and I won't be forced to do these things. ;)

I can see that bad driving is truely International but the one that rabbit bought up, that of clowns pulling out in front of you when there is no-one behind, well that really makes my blood boil. Especially if I have to brake on the highway. Grrrrrr.

Here are some of my favorites.

While following someone off the freeway and apparently going to same way for some distance, the knucklehead in front finally uses a turn signal about the third or fourth time they turn.

Pass just one more car before cutting someone off while trying to get into a right hand lane to exit the freeway.

Approaching a T intersection on a road that is really two lanes but doesn't have divider lines and moving to the right lane to turn left!

Getting in MY WAY!;)
