The IRL showed up at Kentucky, and a baseball game broke out.

In an effort to boost attendence, the IRL launched an initiative this week to start bringing IndyCars to baseball games in the cities in which they race. The attendence of the baseball game will count towards the final attendence figures of every IRL race weekend. Shouldn't make that much of a difference next year in Milwaukee.

In an attempt to borrow on Carts "urban event" business model, Tony George announced he has struck a deal with MLB to run races at select ballfields across the country. Racers will circumvent the field on the "warning track" ;) .

Here, Kelley's Scott Sharp is seen at the first open test before the game last night. Sadly, Scott failed to negotiate the first turn taking out half the bullpen and 3 of the 4 Milwaukee weiners.

The Cardinals' new assitant grounds keeper, a recent immigrant to the United States who still has some difficulty with the English language, made an expensive, but comical mistake when it cam time to order a new Fertilizer Spreader.

In his language, it translates literally as "CRAP WAGON", so naturally, he specified it as such in the requisition.

Hilarity ensued!

Scott Sharp gives a whole new meaning to "the 8 car is off track".

The team's mascots couldn't afford the ATV they were riding, so they had to go to something lower tech.

The Indy Racing League today has unveiled it's new brand of open wheel racing. Having decided that the majority of it's drivers don't have enough talent on their own, the IRL has decided to switch to a 2-seater format similiar to the World Rally Championship. The driver will be in the front seat and in the back seat will be the navigator. The two will communicate via radio transmitters in the helmets of both the driver and navigator.

Seriously though, can you imagine the navigator..."ok, left, now straight, now left, now straight, now left, now straight, now left........." Would be pretty darn boring for the poor guy.

Or, how bout this one:

In an attempt to compete with the much more popular and highly visible NASCAR Winston Cup Series, the Indy Racing League has decided to follow NASCAR's example and completely forego driver safety. Indy Racing League Driver's will now have the option of just wearing their baseball caps during races instead of the traditional safety helmet.
