My Proposed CART Pace Car Fleet

With the massive changes occurring recently in the Bridgestone Presents the Champ Car World Series Powered by Ford, and in CART in general, it is time to discard much of the old pace car fleet as it is filled with cars from manufacturers who no longer participate in CART or the CWS or never have at all, such as Honda, Acura, Lexus and Dodge (since Toyota is still the engine supplier of the Atlantic Series I have no problem keeping the Solara on the team). I feel that the pace car fleet should reflect the manufacturer membership of CART and the CWS. To that end, I submit this list for the reading pleasure of my forum brethren:

The 2003 Mazda RX8

The 2003 Mazda 6s Sport

The 2003 Ford Mustang Cobra (coupe, convertible, or both)

The 2005 Ford Mustang GT

The 2004 GT40

The 2003 Lincoln LS V8

We will also be getting Ford F250s on the CART Simple Green Safety Team to replace the Tundras, hence the blow-out of Safety Team models at SimpleGreen.com and CART.com.

What are your thoughts?

I think they ought to give the old pace cars to some loyal fans here. I want that Supra!

When it's time, I'd be glad to take a GT40 off of their hands. What a timeless design (or maybe it's just nostalgia).

I think you need to add a Mercury Maurader and a Jaguar XK to the list.

Why don't I see a Festiva or Merkur on this list?

I bet we'll see an SVT "tuner" Focus, too.

Perhaps because it's not 1988.

Does that mean it is time to scrap my XR4TI? ;) :D Those things had a tendency to get ugly and un-cool real fast.

We don't have those models in the USA, and I am guessing that Merkur is Mercury in the EU, right? Maybe Ford could ad those to the fleet for the 2 European races. I don't know if they would be willing to bring cars to America that aren't available for sale here. But then again, maybe they are. I guess we'll find out at St Pete when we see the new pace fleet.
