Saw this on another board.

Lazier out, Gidley in.

Gidley exudes "loser". CART don't need sad-sack hobos like him sniffin' around.

So long, sucker!

If Gidley broke through at Mid-Ohio the story on him could be evry different. Replacing Lazier sure as hell isn't much of a climb up a ladder.

Gidley is a good racer. I won't knock him.

But the Meltdown on TenderloinForum over this is one for the ages.

You're not kidding about the meltdown. One of the beloved originals is being replaced by a CARTisan!! Oh the humanity!

According to a thread over at TF, the Gidley deal is for one race only. The real replacement for Lazier is German, Alex Mueller, who's over in the Deutchsland this weekend and can't make the race. This also may be the last race for the other Lazier, Jacques, as Foyt has apparently run out of money to run the #5 car until another foreign road racer shows up with a check in hand.

If Mueller takes the ride, one can only hope that Turn13 has enough server space to handle the Meltdown that will follow.

I thinking at least an 8 page thread.

Which is probably pretty low. I myself had two posts deleted. One post said this:

"This sucks.

I have no interest in CART II. Buddy is likely done - none of the CART owners would hire him then, why would they hire him now?"

The second post was in response to one of the faithful, and merely referred to Buddy's racing at I-70 in the AIS.

I bet there have been 50 posts deleted so far from that thread...

The reason why Buddy never got a look from a decent CART team in the early 90s was because he hadn't done a damn thing in his career to have merited one. He was Buddy Backmarker then and gave no one a reason to look at him.

Not that I really care about Buddy's fortunes, mind you. It's not as if he has to worry about where his next meal will come from.

This recipe might help:

Pan Fried Crow -- Tenderloin Style

"So Good You'll Want To Bitch Slap Tony George"

Ingredients

2 eggs
lemon pepper seasoned bread crumbs or flour
olive oil, butter or bacon grease

Preparation

Cut breast meat medallions from as many crows as required by your level of humiliation. Beat each medallion a with meat hammer (for tenderizing) until it is 1/4 inch thick. Ocassionally stop and beat yourself over the head just because. Dip medallions in beaten egg and then in seasoned bread crumbs or flour. Fry in olive oil and butter in medium hot skillet. Bacon grease can be substituted but can smoke than a blown Offy. Leave inside a tad pink.

Sides

Serve with eight years of hope shattered by remorse and despair, an ear of corn roasted in husk, and a baked potato with plenty of sour cream and bitter garni.

Drink: sour milk or IMS's own brand of kool-aid.....

The IRL today: half the fans hate it for what it was and is, and the other half hate it for what it's becoming.

Exactly who is going to be watching these races in the upcoming years?

Not true. I looked at him for a split second of recognition at the Cleveland CART race in '94. Then I spent about five minutes checking out his girlfriend.

The fall out does seem to be a bit over the top. They hoped and hoped that some well funded racing teams would come to their series, and getting them from CART was all the better. This spelled the death of the "little guy" and once the Japanese engine makers showed up, the sweet strains of the fat lady singing had arrived.

In a league formed on parity, it amazes me that there are fans who still buy into the ruse. Engines are leased, and the number of engines supplied was set way back in March. There is no magic rabbit in the hat for Chevy to pull their fortunes out of the gutter. The fall out will be the beloved Sam Hornish either going to taxi's or over to the evil Roger Penske (or a Honda team, let the bidding begin) While anti Penske sentiment was at an all time high in 1996, and now borders on complete memory loss now that He is back in "their" series.

Stay tuned for complete reversal version three.

Nothing about this is good. It was, and continues to be, a series built on lies and self serving desires. USAC Headquarters is one city block away from the offices of IMS, yet no promotion of drivers from this sanctioning body has ever been established in reguards to seat time in rear engine machines.

Since 1961 folks, 42 years worth of living in the past.

Racing is a money game, if you have it, its great. When your out, its "remember that guy"

You guys are gonna love this, but help me out here. When I left for Europe in April, Slo-Bud was out of a ride, cause Ronnie spent the $$$ on vittles or something.

and...

Although the IRL500 is THE largest, biggest, and best single day sporting event in the whole world, sadly (:D ), I couldn't find a single station from Dusseldorf to Kiev that would air it, or any of the other gems they hold either, although I never missed an F1 or ChampCar race.

So, now that my long-winded lead in is done, I have a question.

Who exactly WAS Slo-Bud driving for anyway?, and was his sponsor TBA?

This just in, Memo showed up at Hemelgarns shop and they told him thanks, but we've changed our mind, Buddy is staying. What a class A outfit. They could've at least contacted him and told him don't bother coming in.

Do the harcore lemmings claim Tomas as one of their own, because if not, you have to go to 12 to find a real racer they can stand behind. Or is it Brack? Needless to say, their hopes are thinning dramatically. The old guard is at the back.

Looks like Slo-Bud has got the Hemelgarn short-bus bringing up the rear.

Looks like Toney got what he wanted all along. C^RT circa 1995 but without the road courses and fans.

This reminds me of something said by either DaveL or Mike Kellner. It was "Pole day was C^RT day and bump day was USAC day".

That is SUCH a lame argument...always has been. I wonder why all those rich gentleman drivers in the pre-war days and even into the '50s risked life and limb (and often gave it)? BECAUSE they were "rich" or because they fed on the rush of competition and the desire to prove their skill and worth in a tangible way other than with cash? Why always blame the money involved when trying to assess the REAL worth of an individual? You then become no better than those who belittle someone because they are poor, or uneducated, or talk funny, or dress differently. No, I couldn't care less if a PERSON like Mike Tyson was banned from boxing for his actions outside the ring (oh, wait a minute...) but when the career of a gentleman like Buddy Lazier nears an end I just get a little wistful and don't even consider his financial standing. My career is ending soon. Given the parameter you set for Buddy, you'd LOVE me!!

racer2c
07-24-03, 07:23 PM
Lame ass comparison pal, the racers in the era that you are talking about didn't have the option of making millions.

Buddy has the cash, he's a wanker, he should fade away like all the other wankers.

Wistful of Lazier? You're on the wrong forum.

Gurneyflap

Pal? Oh, my. "The option of making millions"?...no, you see, the ones I was talking about were those who already HAD millions. I understand what you are saying, I merely think it a poor excuse to trash someone. As far as being on the wrong forum, you could be correct, but I won't judge it on your replies alone, if you don't mind. You may put this topic in your "win" colmn if you'd like. Moving on...
