Might as well start a general thread for this year. Gosh, I laughed and gasped yesterday. You really had to pay attention to keep up with who was hitting who and who was still on the course and who was on the overland route. "Children's" in the title fit or maybe it should have been "The Pato OWard Bumper Car Bonanza." What is it? Three cars in two races? And let's not forget the Dixon shunt in LB last year.

Once it was confirmed that it was the bridge mannequin (and not an actual human) that tumbled onto the track, I may have gotten a very big case of the giggles.
I also feel bad for Malukas getting fired by McLaren. I know he's a grown up who made the decision to go mountain biking and got hurt, but the way to fix that team's issues is not to fire the guy that hasn't even been in the car yet. It doesn't address Pato's recent habit of driving into his teammates, nor does it fix Rossi's race getting ruined by a runaway wheel.
I’d love to have heard an interview with the driver who hit it. Were they aware it was a mannequin? Did they even see it?

Pietro in car said to the effect: some effin idiot fell off the bridge!
I just can't help thinking it was one of the 7G/Crapwagon/YFDS/OC gang that brought her to the track... It sounds like something one of us would do or have done in the past...

IndyCar developing improved bellhousing
https://racer.com/2024/05/09/indycar-developing-improved-bellhousing/
Went to a lighter bellhousing due to the weight and added components of hybrid technology. But the lighter bellhousing is cracking and the series can’t revert to the old design because of the hybrid components.

The Siegel kid is probably lucky he didn't make the show, he seemed to be in over his head.

Indianapolis 500, 2024. Well THAT was a long day. Kudos to devilmaster for keeping the chat window open so long.
Regarding the end. As they kept saying it was the first back to back winner since Castroneves in 2022, I couldn't help but think back to that day. I just reread the whole succession of events and appeals. As Kravitz said (I paraphrase), it was like the worst decision made by an incompetent NFL official. I thought of it because there are still a lot of people who are calling Newgarden a cheater. He feels this vindicates him. That's what I thought when he passed O'Ward but I'm wondering what you all think? Winner or cheater or both?
And how the heck did Dixon get third? Rossi said he was saving fuel but he must have darn near stopped as he approached the finish line. Did anyone have any other view than what NBC showed?

Killing time, reading through Marshall Pruitt's Racer post-500 Mailbag. GUFFAWWW!
Q: The best visual from this year’s race was a guy wearing a shirt that said Team P2Penske in the team Penske layout.
John, Seville, Ohio
MP: That made the rounds among drivers and team owners and it was hilarious.

On their podcast, Hinch asked Rossi about this, because Hinch had no idea either. Rossi said that he had a JR Hildebrand moment going into Turn 4 because he got too aggressive trying to overtake Pato. Dixon slid past Rossi while Rossi was getting himself sorted.

Detroit race recap in one photo. Refueling the pace car during the race.
I just spent a good ten minutes laughing at this on Twitter.
INDYCAR on NBC
@IndyCaronNBC
Describe this race in a gif. #INDYCAR
The winner seems to be the dumpster fire floating down a flooded road but a lot of really creative stuff.
I watched the IMSA race on Saturday and was l expecting a messy race. My expectations were exceeded. It’s a terrible track. Much too narrow. Especially for IMSA prototypes But there were some really stupid attempts at overtaking in IndyCar. Throw in moisture and they need to refill the pace car.

Servia should get points for leading the most laps yesterday (even if it was in the pace car).
Meanwhile, Canapino's fans are issuing insults and death threats against Pourchaire for a punt that happened in yesterday's race. That's the second time in the last year they've done it to the unlucky soul who dared touch Canapino.
