Looks like they had to lose the swooshy car profile to make room for all the sponsors. :(

I went to cart.com on-line store and tried to pick up a few old logo stuff and it shows that stuff is all discontinued.

I wonder how long till the new stuff is posted and up for sale??

Not to be nitpicking, but why an oval? However, as I said in another thread, I like the color scheme.

You can also look at it from this perspective. Does it really matter? All of us here will buy the merchandise anyway.:)

To placate the Blue Oval folks? ;)

Well, if you really want to nitpick...the oval is tappering as it approaches the logo. Giving the illusion that the oval is fading away.:p

It also has broken lines in it. Indicating that an oval concept is a broken concept.

The logo with the Bridgestone and Ford logos is quite busy, but if sponsors want exposure, you have to give it to them.

I really dig the new "corporate logo." Overall the new logos give CART a very "high tech" feel. Of course, a "trendy" logo like this one might not have the staying power that a more "traditional logo" like the old one might have had.

nrc....

The image that had the "swoosh" car may be for one of the races that CART will co-promote this year. Maybe it was not intended for the Corp./Series logo. That could be the basis for the rumor that the leaked logo was not the logo.

TERRIBLE!
The sponsor logo looses the name of the series in it and we need that to be noticed right now more than anything.
The plain CART one does not make a statement at all to me.

Vote on it !

Not a simple oval..it has roadcourse qualities, too. ;)

But, you're right...we'll be buyin' em! :)

It's fine, and it's about 500 billion times better than a contrived logo based on other professional sports leagues like MLB, and the NBA. If it had looked like that I'd have been truly disappointed.

I wonder why they didn't use the "carrot symbol" type A in the Champ Car logo as they did in the CART logo?

It seems as if they would want some type of continuity and that the "carrot" A is the main charactoristic that they are playing off of.

The Champ Car part is good and at least it doesn't read "CW Series" but it looks like something puked up weeks ago in a dorm party gone bad.

The carrot IS used in the logo, it's just tipped on its side. I'll bet that the video showing the logo has the carrot from "CART" tipping over into the new logo.

By the way, I like the logos.

Orange is by far the coolest color.

I think there is going to be alot more people buying CART shirts and stuff out here in Long Beach. The new logo is stylish and kind of cool and not hokey and old fashioned like the one.

I, for one, think it was a courageous and thoughtful logo that CART has designed. They not only recognize the orange cones lost each year at CART races by using the orange color, but they also use their silhouette. A fitting tribute. :p

My first impression is thumbs down. Don't know why. It just doesn't excite me. I'll still buy stuff too, though.

I think the simple CART letters across the front of a t-shirt or on the pocket of a golf shirt would be  . Count me in.

It's fine.

On to matters of significant import...

Hmm, I like 'em, but, the series log is way too busy, while the corporate is way to plain?!? WTF? What happened to the silohete (sp?) of the ChampCar? hmmm, I'm wavering... I like the colors and the basic 'ChampCar World Series" part, but I'm disappointed that the car is gone.

The car hasn't been there since 96. You referring to the car in the graphic that was circling a couple weeks ago?

I love them both, I think they are perfect.

They passed my test...worthy of going onto my beloved "at the track" beer cooler.

You just don't get higher marks than that.

Yeah... unfortunately that won't fly in 2005 when they add airboxes. :(

Let's hope for something other than overhead airboxes in 2005.

Adding airboxes will take less than 5% of the graphic? Who needs airboxes anyway? Ever seen the Mario's lotus? ;) :D

That image is just a wallpaper that CART.com made available with the new logo. The Visteon car in the background isn't part of the logo at all.

I kinda like this one alot. I know, you won't believe where it came from. BTW, don't shoot me, I just prefer this.

I like the colors better. It ties the old logo in with the new. The new sponsor partners stand out well and the new series name also stands out well. It also has an entire visual image of a champ car on it.

WickerBill
01-16-03, 07:04 AM
If you're going to distance yourself from the other series, I think you have to completely ditch the color scheme the other series just unveiled. That's why I don't think the logo above from 220mph would work.

Plus, I still think they were considering that the silouette of the champ car could change significantly by 2005 and therefore outdate the logo.

On that note -- it's a logo, not anything more. Yes, you need a logo, you need branding. But in order to get public acceptance, you get a logo and stick with it (or something VERY similar).

My company's logo is perhaps the dullest thing on earth, but you know, *everyone* in the industry (and many outside) know the logo, because we've used it (or a variation of it) for over 100 years.

Let's look at some seriously dull, but effective, logos:

http://www.microsoft.com/net/images/banner.gif
Ooh, pretty. Bzzt, not really! But you know it...

http://investor.lilly.com/images/logo.gif
Wow, now if this isn't a snoozer. Effective, though.

http://i.cnn.net/cnn/.element/img/1.0/logo/cnn.gif
(Forget the .com part) Flashy? No. Sexy? No. Been around forever? Yes.

http://welcome.hp-ww.com/country/img/logo.gif
Saucy!! Well, not really. But hey.. it's a logo, and I know it.

http://www.cart.com/OneOf/2003/LogoLaunch/images/03_CART.gif
Not bad at all....

Now, you're gonna say I'm using the corporate logo for the benefit of my argument, but in truth, all of the above companies lend their name to this or that subcompany or subprogram that, for that very reason, have a much busier logo.

In my opinion, and mine only, adding a car or whatever to a logo that already has to have two other corporate logos embedded in it would have been overload.

One more thing... I expect you to see the following logo quite a bit, especially when incorporated into race event logos:

There's a thread started at 7G concerning the ^ and then >. Something about a reference to the cones.:D

RaceGrrl

In this forum yesterday, I made the comment about the logo echoing the cones. It was my characterization of the logo, but that's okay- take a good idea and run with it. :)

You really want to know why they made the A like they did in the logo?

It is supposed to be a stick figure of Tony George bending over preparing to get!@#$&*

Well, at least that is what I see
