"I got one clear lap without somebody getting in the way. It wasn’t intentional and it wasn’t anybody’s fault, just bad luck. We would catch someone coming out of the pits at the start of a good lap, so I would slow down to create some space then get the car back up to speed and catch someone else. Every lap I found someone. The only lap I got clean was the one that it rained the most. It was just awful timing and very frustrating. "

So what's the difference between Oriol complaining about traffic and Jourdain? Oriol understands that it's about timing and luck. I like Jourdain, but he needs to stop complaining about traffic in qualifying.

The thing I wonder about it is, at Cleveland as I browsed around the pits, I noticed many of the teams had a monitor with an outline of the track that showed the placement of every car running. It was easy for the teams to see where every car was at any time. The teams should be able to find some gaps in the traffic with only 18 or 19 cars to get at least one good qualifying attempt. I'm still a proponent of multi-car qualifying on road courses, it adds another storyline to the chess match, while also inadvertently mixing up the grid so you may not necessarily have all of the fastest cars starting towards the front.

Got a faster car? Prove it on Sunday.
