WHERE RED BULL'S RESTORED SUZUKA GAP IS COMING FROM (https://www.the-race.com/formula-1/friday-analysis-japanese-gp-red-bull-mark-hughes/)

great analysis

explains P1 Red Bull difference

Red Bull put Sergio Perez out with the old floor (the type which ran in the race in Singapore) and Verstappen with the updated one in the first session just to conduct a back-to-back comparison. Satisfied that the new floor was working as expected, both cars were fitted with it in FP2.

So... now we know how a slightly angry Max Verstappen performs...

Might lead to the end of the young American

Well in fairness I think he got into the deep-end a bit to quickly as in I think another year of F2 would've been very beneficial for him. The speed is there, just seems that he is a bit tentative at times, is my experience after having watched him regularly since he joined F3.

A slower approach would probably have suited him better, especially if we compare him to his current teammate who was "forced" to do a year of DTM racing in 2021 and when he returned to F1 in 2022 has been growing as a driver a lot since his first stint in Alpha Tauri and Red Bull.

I think he is potentially a good competent F1 racer, a midfield driver if you will. But the draw of having a young american on the team to attract sponsors was to important for Williams unfortunately for Logans career prospects.

Yes, extremely interesting. Disregard Max who is otherworldly, the rest of the race was entertaining. PER looks like he’s done. BOT had a bad day. Williams goes home licking their wounds. McLaren is for real. Debate on Mercedes orders will occupy the conversation until the next race. SAI is getting stronger by the race. Lots going on.

I didn't see it in the coverage either.

From Autosport: "Gasly was asked to move aside and let team-mate Ocon through to take ninth place on the last lap at Suzuka, having earlier been gifted the position in a team order swap.

At that stage of the race, Gasly was on fresher rubber and Alpine believed that if he was let through by Ocon he would have a chance to close in on the Aston Martin of Fernando Alonso who was ahead of them on the track.

When it became clear that Gasly was not going to get close enough to Alonso, it issued the order for him to reverse their positions back."

Did anyone else catch this? I caught the race replay on F1 TV Pro. The onboard camera from HAMs car was unusually stable compare to other cars. I watched the segment again and it looks like the Mercedes camera might be gimbal mounted. On every other car, when they take a turn, it's the horizon that appears to tilt. On HAMs car the horizon stayed level and the halo appears to tilt. Was I seeing things?

They talked a bit about that, in one of the practice sessions maybe. It's all done digitally (their camera doesn't move). Interesting effect for sure.

Finally found an article. They keep describing it as a "Gimbal Mounted Camera" so now I'm not sure.
