What a great sprint race! If you disregard the Red Bulls and focus on the rest, it’s a very competitive field. Fortunately the broadcast did just that.

Yeah that was a very good race

This tweet aged well

McLaren has one upgrade ready for #AustrianGP. Norris will run it. Piastri with the old spec. #AMuS

After yesterday’s sprint I shouldn’t have been surprised with so much action. But I was. Again, disregard Red Bull and to some extent Ferrari and this is intensely competitive.

FIA update:

"During the Grand Prix, Race Control was tasked with reviewing well over 1,200 instances where a car was reported as potentially leaving the track. The results will be updated once the review of those which were not able to be reviewed during the race is complete."

The FIA will also recommend to the promoters that a gravel trap is added at the exit of Turns 9 and 10.

According to the stewards, the retrospective penalties have been applied as follows:

For four infringements, a five-second time penalty; for five infringements, a 10-second time penalty.

Then a “reset” has been allowed due to the excessive number of infringements. The counting of infringements restarts. After another four infringements, a five-second time penalty will apply; after five, a 10-second time penalty.

The stewards also added that they “very strongly recommend” that a solution be found to the track limits at the Spielberg circuit.

The penalties imposed after the race in full are as follows:

Carlos Sainz – 10-second time penalty
Lewis Hamilton – 10-second time penalty
Pierre Gasly – 10-second time penalty
Alex Albon – 10-second time penalty
Esteban Ocon – 5-second time penalty
Esteban Ocon – 10-second time penalty
Esteban Ocon – 5-second time penalty
Esteban Ocon – 10-second time penalty (30 seconds in total for Ocon)
Logan Sargeant – 10-second time penalty
Nyck de Vries – 10-second time penalty
Nyck de Vries – 5-second time penalty (15 seconds in total for De Vries)
Yuki Tsunoda – 5-second time penalty

The Austrian Grand Prix results are now as follows:

Amazing that the podium did not have any infractions. When you're fast you don't need to cut corners, so to speak, so maybe not that amazing.

As the season progresses, I'm liking Bernie Collins and Naomi Schiff more and more. Especially Bernie's technical insights. Sky needs to find a way to get both to the North American events and get rid of that fluff piece you know who.

I don't think Schiff adds much. You don't need to be a racer/engineer/whatever to be good at broadcasting but I don't think she's got much in he way of media skills to make up for her fairly mediocre racing results. Collins on the other hand is great because she's got proper first-hand knowledge to share and whilst clearly still a bit shy about being on TV she makes up for it with excellent knowledge and analysis.

Glad I'm not the only one. I'm yet to be impressed by her abilities in front of a camera.

I mean she's kind of cute but I don't really want my Formula 1 hosts chosen for their looks at the same time that we can't have grid girls because it's offensive to pick people based on their looks
