It's a shame that unique tradition died. I was disappointed when the Dutch TT moved to Sunday instead of Saturday as was tradition.

The video footage of Senna's old in-car laps around Monaco are crazy.
I punch them up from time-to-time when I'm in the mood to re-live the past.
Good times!

Makes me wonder how a pinnacle era Champ Car would have done 'round Monaco...

While the current post isn’t necessarily devoted to solely the upcoming Monaco race, it is discussed. I highly recommend subscribing to his email newsletter. They are always very well written.

This just reminded me of Juan Pablo Montoya snatching the pole at Detroit in 1999.

The Ferrari post race debrief should be interesting. Hope Netflix is videoing that. ;)

The most vivid example of under cut/over cut that I can recall. And one of the most entertaining Monaco races in years.

Too disjointed, I much prefer full race distance versus a timed race.

SteveH
05-29-22, 01:05 PM
Yeah had that gone the distance I wonder I Red Bull’s tires would have made it.

Their strategy would've been different then...

Croft said toward the end: "This race has had it all!"

Except passing. There was none of that nonsense.

For weeks the media has been ragging on Monaco and praising the gloriousness of Miami. Well we saw wealth displayed classily all weekend and a much more interesting event than that cringe worthy nonsense in Florida. I really don't understand why the race didn't start on time though

They had a power outage, and it apparently lasted long enough that they "had" to do rolling restarts because they didn't have the lights. That's the party line, at least.

GREEN NOTEBOOK FROM SOLARIUM BEACH
https://joesaward.wordpress.com/2022/05/31/green-notebook-from-solarium-beach/

While we all love the concept of Monaco, it is one of the worst races – by a long way, although the ACM seems unable to grasp the concept that it is not the best race in the world. One good indicator of the arrogance in Monaco is that one never sees ACM people at other races looking at what rival promoters do… to learn. The ACM thinks there is nothing to learn.

Ah well, ignorance is bliss. F1 is telling Monaco it might not agree a new contract, but the ACM thinks it is impossible that F1 would drop the Grand Prix. It is not impossible…

I couldn't help but reflect on this article...

Monaco boss reveals troubled F1 negotiations
https://www.sportsmole.co.uk/formula-1/monaco-grand-prix/news/monaco-boss-reveals-troubled-f1-negotiations_487094.html

The Automobile Club de Monaco president, who is also a top FIA official, confirmed reports that the main sticking point with Liberty is the F1 owner's desire for more control.

"That is, let them rule the track, the commercials, the awards ceremony, the marshals - all of that," Boeri told Monaco Info.

"I'm sorry, but we did 79 grands prix and as far as I'm concerned, it's clear that I'm not close to following them in all of their requests," he insisted.

"You might think that I'm not flexible enough, but I still think, as far as Monaco is concerned, that it's not a grand prix that is modelled on the others.

Soward is one of many journalists doing the bidding of Liberty. You lose Monaco, you lose the soul of F1. Not even Bernie could be idiotic enough to pick a proper fight with the principality.

It's not the bleeping Arkenstone, in my opinion. The locality and the event itself may have some magic, but the track hasn't been fit for purpose for 30 years, it's only for nostalgia.

And yes, that's worth something. Just not sure how much.
