Who all is planning on being in Miami in about 5+ weeks?

Have not been on in awhile, thought I would drop in to say hello to everyone. I am going to be there, likely as Chief Post Captain, or Radio Marshal. Course is looking good so far, cant wait to see how it transforms.

I'm probably the closest OC member to the race (~1 hour drive to the Hard Rock for me).
Toying with the idea of going. I'll see what the world looks like in a couple of weeks.

If anybody else is planning on going, post up and maybe we'll do a meet-up.

Can you get tickets? I heard it was sold out.

It is. I suspect if you go the route of the Independent Ticket Broker that will bear fruit. If I go I was planning on bringing a roll of hundreds and taking my chances.

Easy for me to say because I can just drive home if it doesn't pay off...

Not going but remembering 2003, paling around with PTsMom and her brother and family. Elton John, the man himself, in concert with race fans who couldn't have given a cr@p who was playing. OJ Simpson a few rows behind me!!! Race day was hot as the living daylights. RHR's aunt was feeding me water bottles in the paddock. Thought I'd fry on my metal bleacher seat across from the pits. Fun times. So different from now.

Not quite...

It's $900 for Saturday+Sunday (e.g. $450/day)
If you want Fridays too - that's yet another $300...bringing your grand total to $1200 ($400/day)
Plus parking

My friend was telling me that he read the MiamiGP is the most expensive on the F1 Calendar. Slightly ahead of Monaco in terms of costliness. I didn't fact-check him, but it seems correct.

I suppose rigorously you could claim it's a 'better' deal now in that you can buy a Sunday-only ticket for $500.
BUT
My reaching explanation aside, I absolutely agree with you. This is QUITE the situation...I never imagined it would be this expensive.

Even though I'm only 45 minutes away...I can't see myself going this year.
Maybe next year after the novelty has worn off.

My friend (who also lives here) made a great point: Parking is free.......as long as we stay home.:rofl::rofl:

Multiple reporters have reached out to me with dozens of unanswered logistical questions. Zero communication from most teams. No idea what to do or where to go or when to be there. F1 wants the US market but it’s governing body is ZFG in aiding those inside the market.

Back when I was with ESPN every part of covering a F1 race was the most difficult. Starting with ‘your credentials are inside a restricted area and you don’t have credentials to enter the restricted area.

Doesn't auger well for Las Vegas, does it?

Try getting a ticket in a suite overlooking the track in Monaco. At any rate, not being the world's biggest Formula One fan, I was expecting to see "fake" in front of the word "race" also. :gomer:

Miami hosts its first F1 Grand Prix this weekend, and thousands of fans are spending a ton just to be in town (https://www.cnbc.com/2022/05/04/formula-1-miami-grand-prix-brings-extraordinary-wealth-to-race-weekend.html)

More than 300,000 race fans, tourists, executives and party-goers are expected to pour into Miami for the event, sponsored by Crypto.com. It’s the racing league’s inaugural Miami event and takes place across three days starting on Friday.

The average price for Sunday’s race is $2,179 — three times the average price for the U.S. Grand Prix in Austin last year, according to online ticket seller SeatGeek. Some tickets sold for north of $7,200 each. Organizers say the prices are soaring even higher into the weekend, with hospitality packages listed on resale site StubHub for more than $25,000.

The massive race campus built around Hard Rock Stadium for the event includes a beach, dry-dock yacht marina and several VIP viewing areas. “Sand Tickets” at the Hard Rock Beach Club promise a resort-style seat for the racing action and are being offered for $1,000 a piece — “beach attire encouraged.” “Deck tickets” at the Beach Club go for $2,000

Yesterday I had to take a pass on attending. A friend called with tickets made available through his daughter's employer. Wouldn't have cost a cent, other than airfare, hotels, and overpriced everything else. But Sunday is Mothers Day and we will have a house full. Had it been any other weekend I'd probably be on my way to the airport now. The tickets are $5,700 each.

Looking out my window right now the sky is pretty gray. Rain in the area. Could make for interesting qualifying today.
Tomorrow's a different story - partly cloudy, hot and humid. High of 90 degF. Prbably have to use wet setup today and hot/dry setup tomorrow. We'll see who gets it right.

I went.

I stayed at one of the local resorts, bought a parking pass which got me to a lot across the street from the hard rock casino and hotel. So I left early in the morning, and gambled for a few hours because I didn’t wanna deal with the heat. After lunch in the casino headed to the bus for the ride over. (No Circuit of the Americas School Buses, big 50 passenger A/C buses) Unfortunately a tanker truck jackknifed on the other side of the highway , so I’m sure it through their plans to disarray because the buses returning to pick up more passengers would have gotten stuck, I’m sure they found a different route.

This is my second trip to the stadium, as I went to the Super Bowl there a couple of years ago, they divided the area up in to different campuses… I didn’t want to crawl up and down bridges all day long so I did it once and grabbed the escalator up to the top of the stadium to look over the track from there.

Afterwards I headed to the front stretch, my seats were in section 15 in the shaded area, thank God, I sat next to a gentleman and his daughter who were from Sicily. I listened to the broadcast on SiriusXM radio. A slight tape delay. Took a break for refreshments… But it was just a typical F1 race, I was surprised it no other strategies were employed by the Ferrari team, I think they were happy just to take home good points. Best shirt of the day “I was an F1 fan before Netflix“.

Heading to the Keys to recover… 15,000 steps was No Bueno!

Thought it was an OK race. Max was the fastest and probably should have had pole had he not messed up. The track surface wasn’t as much of a factor as I thought it might be. Although BOT was caught by it. This race may have put all other promoters on notice to up their game. With some spill over to IndyCar. I know some long time Euro F1 fans are a bit salty that this race was too over the top, too American. Just wait until they see what happens at Vegas. I expect no less than holograms of Elvis and Sinatra. Miami just laid down the ante that other races will need to match.

It has been very enjoyable!

About tyre strategy “ Red Bull team boss Christian Horner said afterwards: "Ferrari let us off the hook slightly when it went from a virtual safety car to a full safety car.

"Max had already passed the pit entry, whereas Ferrari would have had a free stop. They didn't take it with either of their cars.

"We're grateful for that, because I think if they did put soft tyres on, that would have been a P3 today."
