I guess I'm kind of surprised not to see a thread for Brian. At the same time, I think we're all just about finished with the IRL. I feel indifferent.

I was very glad to see Bryan's recent success. He's alway been one of my favorite underdogs.

The fact that it came on a cookie cutter is just icing on the cake imo as he has always been labeled a "road course specialist" by some.

Hell, he even made the PKR disaster look mediocre instead of just horrible for one week.

Herta isn't a favorite of mine so I don't really care about his IRL win.

I will agree with 'bird on his performance at PKR though.

I was thrilled to see Bryan win. He's always been one of my favorites. I have to admit, I was a little disappointed at his result when he filled in at Laguna. But after watching Papis chase Salles and Lavin around at Cleveland, I realized what a major accomplishment it was for him to put the PKR car in the middle of the grid.

I think the main reason you haven't seen any "Go Bryan!" or "Giaffone injured" or "Sarah's so sorry" threads is because we were all so jazzed from a great weekend at Cleveland. So many good things are happening in CART right now, it's easy to forget about the IRL.

I have always thought Zanardi didn't just steal a win with "The Pass" but took a chunk out of Herta's soul. I never thought he recovered.

He did very well at Kansas and to say he was enthusiastic would be an understatement.

Being harsh here, but all it proves to me is even someone who has absolutely no belief in his own abilities on an oval can win in a parachuted car on a high banked track. It doesn't take driver speed, it takes someone who can turn the wheel and good pit stops.

He won again at Dover four months later. But 2 wins and 1 pole say it all.

Im all for Americans, by and large

but I think along the same lines as WickerBill. IRL = Lotto

I always liked Bryan, but over time I concluded that he was a driver, not a racer. In a good car he's great - he gave Zanardi a run for his money more than once before the Goodyears gave up. In any thing less than a good car he's a waste of methanol.

It's funny to see him become an instant IRL hero. I wonder how they'll feel the first time he parks a car for "handling problems". Are there any tracks on the IRL schedule that require handling?

That last season at Rahal, when he was parking the car due to "handling problems", must have been really rough on him. I think the worst mistake made that year was how he conducted his tv interviews after parking the car. He was extremely sour and put on a terrible show for shell. What sponsor is going to be excited about having this grumpy guy be their spokesperson?

I was never a huge Herta fan. I thought he was inconsitant on the track.

If I were a driver for a major team like Penske of TCGR in the IRL and a one off racer pulled a win, I'd do some serious soul searching on whether that is the series I want to be in. Am I a jockey or driver?

Dario must be scratching his head over that win.

I suppose a win is a win. But lots of folks win at the roulette wheel...

Bryan Herta is boring. If his name and nationality was other than American, nobody would be talking about him at all. But good for him for giving Mikey full value.

Well, I don't know about the rest of the people here....

But i talk about Herta because he's a long time driver for Bobby Rahal, was a good driver that has some wins and was a nice guy.

You make it sound like I talk about Greg Moore because he's dead, not because he was a good driver, 5 time winner, and an all around great guy.

But then again, I'm Canadian, so according to you, that must make it ok for me to talk about herta. Apparently, I'm not a xenophobe.

Congrats Bryan!!! You have demonstrated that you can mash your right foot to the floor and steer as good as the rest of the lot of IRL drivers.
