one of the Australian races was basically run under Yellow Flag conditions behind the pace car for the whole race? Or am I not remembering it accurately and it actually went green?

Could have been any of them when they moved the race to October. I don't think there was ever a race that wasn't heavily rain affected after that. It is a truly crap time for weather up there. The V8 Supercars races often end up seriously rain affected to this day

That's the one. Thanks, Steve.

I remember very clearly watching that on TV. I was a big Vasser fan so when his car ran up the back of Fernandez, I gasped. I'll never forget Michael Andretti sprinting up to Vasser to be sure he was okay, almost before the cars stopped moving with rain and steam from the collision everywhere. I also remember Jimmy's interview where he said, "You have to keep SOME pace" criticizing Fernandez for slowing. A year or two later I wore a Surfer's tee shirt to a CART race and had Mario sign the back of it. Now I can't wear it again, of course.
