Wasn't the most awesome of CART's stars, but I'll always remember him driving for Steve Horne's team in 1997. Started with the Lola chassis (which was garbage that year) and switched to a bucket-of-parts Reynard mid-season (which I think they got from Derrick Walker's team) and had some great runs in that chassis. Impressed Roger Penske and got hired for that team in 1998 - but never really panned out after that.

Evidently lost his battle with cancer. (https://racer.com/2021/05/23/cart-race-winner-andre-ribeiro-dies-at-55/?utm_source=RACER+%2F%2F+Newsletter&utm_campaign=7ce22d5a19-EMAIL_CAMPAIGN_2021_05_23_02_58&utm_medium=email&utm_term=0_76623d07b6-7ce22d5a19-274258061)

Cancer at 55, so sad. He seemed liked a pretty nice guy, RIP Andre.

Wow. RIP Andre :(

He really cleaned up in Indy Lights for Tasman and that got him the ride in their CART program. I believe he won races for Tasman when Honda was up and coming. He went to Penske at a bad time since the Penske/Mercedes was uncompetitive that year.

3 wins for Tasman including the first win for Honda at New Hampshire in 1995 and the first win on the Rio 'oval.'

Penske looked after him even after he left the team. The obituary on Racer said he ran dealerships for Roger in Brazil

So sad to read this. Definitely a part of the Honda family. :(
