Read an interview and he said he didn't have time to get emotional when in the car. He was focusing on learning the hand controls and getting up to speed. Great to see.

Sharing his Hyundai Elantra N with fellow Canadian Mark Wilkins in a two-hour race at Watkins Glen, Wickens won the TCR class of the Michelin Pilot Challenge event for Bryan Herta Autosport. His last race victory was at the Nurburgring for Mercedes in the DTM in September 2017.

“It was a great weekend for disability awareness,” Wickens said.

Interesting details on Wickens and other disabled former racers here. (https://abcnews.go.com/Sports/wireStory/wickens-aims-victory-racing-home-canada-86029921)

They did a nice piece on him before Mid-Ohio. I know the story so well and I still choked up.

More on next year's plan. I can't envision finding sponsorship would be an issue for this great story.

Robert Wickens was involved in an accident today at the halfway point of the NLS 1 race at Nürburgring in Germany. Robert is conscious and alert and has been transported to a nearby hospital for precautionary checks. We will provide further updates when they become available.

Thank you for posting this. I was away and saw a tweet from Jenna Fryer with even fewer details than what you copied here. Then I couldn't find anything more anywhere. While it seemed that he was okay, I was (am) concerned. Any further news?

He's been released from the hospital.

“Thank you again to everyone at the track and the hospital for their care over the last few days,” Wickens said. “I’m heading home today to get prepared for our IMSA event at Laguna in early May. I look forward to returning to Germany in the future and taking another shot at the ‘Ring. Many thanks to the fans, family and friends for all their messages. See you all at the track very soon.”

He's been released from the hospital.

Very much appreciate that, JB. The sad part was that "His participation in the race was part of a bigger plan to receive the necessary license to compete in the esteemed Nurburgring 24 Hours event" which doesn't seem very likely now.

I don't see Robert's name on the entry list for this year's Indy 500. Anyone hear why it didn't happen?
