For the all knowing OC crowd...

I was recently given an old watch - something given to my Dad when he left the police department in 1974. It is a Lucien Piccard Automatique with date and day of week shown on face. I am told it is self winding.

Since I've be looking at it - it has started to run. My question is how do I set the date, time, etc? I've pulled out the crown and I don't want to force anything - there is some resistance so I've not tried to turn it with any real effort.

Thoughts?

I assume you mean you've pulled out the stem. Usually those things come out half way to set the date; all the way to set the time. Maybe it's just gummy with dirt but you're right not to force anything. Heigh thee to a jeweler!

While we're (you're) at it, any ideas on how to find out values? I have an old Accutron from my uncle and wish I could discover if it's worth $100 or $1000. There is nothing remotely like it pictured on line.
