Just checked and "deaccession" is not a synonym for "bankruptcy".

Grand-pappy collected a lot of stuff and some of it has to go.

Sounds like they're crossing all the I's and dotting all the T's to do in proper museumy fashion. :tony: is the Board Chair and some of the usual suspects are on the board. The Museum foundation operates as a non-profit separately from the Speedway even though it sits in on the grounds.

I'm a little cynical about this because I recently saw a piece griping about how the Rich Folk use museums as a slush fund for their automotive hobby and this fits the bill. My cynical streak suggests that with Penske bringing fiscal reality to the property that the Museum sits on they're finding it necessary to rationalize museum operations. Which means cleaning out grand-pappy's closet.

Interesting that they chose Bring a Trailer as their sales channel. They'll be offering items monthly. You can see what's up for auction at this link:

Yeah, I have no idea what the expectation is for some of those oldies. It will be interesting to see if they make reserve.

Never really looked at Bring A Trailer before and got a little distracted. Oh the stories this thing could tell!

This 1972 Ford Condor II motorcoach is a running project based on a Ford truck chassis and was reportedly commissioned new and used by the chairman and co-founder of McLaren Engines as a trackside hospitality vehicle at various USAC, Can-Am, and F1 events in the 1970s.

What, no sponsorship plastered down the side?

To answer my earlier question, the 1907 Franklin Model G Tourer sold for $51,111. The 1903 Orient Buckboard sold for $32,500.
