It will certainly juice things up if it comes to pass. Reminds me I have the movie "McLaren" on my DVR!

Very excited to see Alonso at IMS again. I really have not followed the series other than the 500, but I may be inclined to do so if Alonso is a full time participant.

Really have to wonder if the Wickens accident will impact Alonso's decision.

My guess is no, because he already wasn’t coming. I’ll be shocked if he doesn’t go to WEC next year and run Indy as a one-off.

Wouldn’t surprise me at all. All he is interested in is winning Indy. Not Iowa.

He's already running the full WEC season now. I expect that not to change.

Andretti said Alonso wants full time, but he’s said nothing - and nothing in that announcement says Indy full time.

Since IndyCar's times at the COTA test were 15 seconds a lap slower than F1's current pole, do you think that had anything to do with Alonso not racing in the series?

Wow, I had no idea they were that much slower. Obviously COTA is a long circuit, but still that's a tad embarrassing. I did end up going to Portland for the Indycar race this year and the cars defiantly didn't seem as fast down the straights, but I have no data to back that up. I haven't watched Indycar in so long that I have no idea about anything going on in the series in regards to cars, drivers HP, etc.

The HP is definitely not where it was circa 2000. But there are plans to push the 900hp mark in the next few years. Reports are that multiple engine manufacturers are taking a serious look at the series given the new regs.

IMO, the talent pool in the series is strong, at least at the top half of the grid. There seems to be a bit of a gap between the cans and cannots.

It’s not CART. But it’s definitely not the IRL either. And it’s headed in the right direction.

I'm sure the times didn't help but Ed knows his stuff so I didn't expect to see Alonso from the getgo.

I'll go on a limb and say it won't be 15s come race day. It was only a tyre test so there's no incentive to push for outright pace.

Right, HAM's time was in qualifications. Under race conditions it would not have been so fast.

They don't test tires at full speed?

Are they just checking to make sure that they're round?
