I love all the dead fish laying around in the nest. Mr. must be out picking them up and bringing them back. There is a bald eagle nest in the national park near me and that thing is a monster in size.

Where I used to live we had a nesting family...and hawks. 100' or so from the Scioto River. And there were the deer in the backyard, Chip and Dale stole the bulbs I planted.... ;)

Not popular in my house. All I know is that they're ugly and famous for being famous. I don't even know how many of them there are

Not to be outdone by our friends to the eaat of oHIo, we have our own 'ugly bird' cam... ( and OW, no, that's not an ugle butt cam ;) )

http://wildlife.ohiodnr.gov/falconcam

Out Peregrine Falcons that have nested on the Rhodes Tower roof (OH government building and tallest in Cbus) for ~two decades. A pair were just hatched. :)

EDIT #3 hatched last night! Awesome. :)

http://ohioperegrinefalcons.blogspot.com/

Some background 411...

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peregrine_falcon

Basically almost extinct ~1970, mainly due to DDT use, ODNR introduced our pair in the '80s and they have thrived.

Our downtown peregrines have opted for privacy this year and have picked a nest location that isn't equipped with a web cam.

First bird I drew (and I can't draw worth a crap) was a hawk/falcon. Nothing ugly about these birds. They've a feature in downtown Cbus for over two decades. I hope the fourth egg hatches. :)

FYI, must be girls....they make alot of noise. ;)

dando

Still nurturing that last egg, but looks like a dud. :( They also reported three hatchlings, but I've only seen the two.

Welp the pair have been hanging out on the Key Bank signs on the sides of the office tower which is about 25 stories up in the dead center of downtown. They have several nest boxes to choose from but as of yet have not closed on a location.

They do have a Facebook page
https://www.facebook.com/SLCPeregrines
but no video yet.

These guys hang out on the 41st floor of the Rhodes Tower (named after former Gov. Jim Rhodes, RIP...the ex lived in the same neighborhood he did while in HS), which is right across from the Ohio Statehouse, and in the middle of downtown. Quite surpised there's no nest compared to the eagles in PA (not to be confused with the other Eagles ;) ). I'm a bit of a bird watcher and feeder, so I've seen my share of birds over the years. Blue Jay sightings are quite rare, but we used to have a couple of cardinals (OH state bird) that took up camp at the old house for a decade+. In other news, the hummingbirds have made their way back. Now if we could just send the Canadian Geese back north of the border (birds with attitude). :gomer: ;)

I watch the feed off and on throughout the day. Feeding time is fun. The Mrs. sqwuaks at the kids and feeds them. No idea what she's feeding them, tho. Take out? ;)

Two of the three falcons have fledged already at about 40 days of age. The third is likely to fledge soon. She's been sitting on the ledge flapping her wings this morning. Watching her, it reminds me of the first time I dove off the high dive. Ok, I'm ready. Nope, not yet. Ok, now... nope. Ok, this time I'm really going. Nope.

In 2014, a pair of mated Bald Eagles chose the most idyllic of nest sites within the United States’ National Capital (Washington, DC), nestled high in a Tulip Poplar tree amongst the Azalea Collection at the U.S. National Arboretum, which is operated by the United States Department of Agriculture. This is the first Bald Eagle pair to nest in this location since 1947. The two Eagles have been iconically named “Mr. President” and “The First Lady.” Join us in viewing the most patriotic nest cam in the United States, 24 hours a day.

Expected to hatch in the next month

Dude, that's been 'any day now' for a month. Makes my mother's ~24 hour labor pale in comparison. But she had to deal with me for 50 years afterwards. :gomer: ;)

The link works but the camera doesn't seem to start up properly. Go Pads. Beat dem Bums. 4-0 last night. I think the fact that the Pads actually scored in the first completely unnerved the Doggies. They played like sandlot.

Seems to be a Flash plug in issue...but after I was horked (technical term) by a Flash update last summer, I'm not updating it.

re: SD/LA...the Bums screwed the pooch by not starting Hill. Plus, they were likely recovering from beating the crap outta SD on Opening Day. :gomer: :p ;)
