Nepal. :( Point is, there is no way to predict these geological events. They happen when they happen on Mother Earth's schedule. Yellowstone has been a concern for well over a decade, and they just determined it's worse than initially expected. Not wishing for it to blow by any means. The way this reads, it could make Krakatoa look like a fire cracker. :(

What are you on about, the study does not in any way shape or form indicate that things are worse, whatever that means. It does go a long way to explaining what is actually going on and with the new mapping the entire system makes much more sense. No one who works on Yellowstone is the slightest bit worried that it will blow in the next few centuries and it is a very safe bet that it won't go for over 100,000 years. Nothing about that caldera is in a condition to blow and there would have to be major and quite obvious changes within the system for it to blow. Those changes are not happening.

As for Nepal, it is a known earthquake zone and the entire Kathmandu region was leveled by an 8.2 in 1934.

No more snowmobiling, I think. Not for me anyway. Will be in Bozeman on business, so why not? Some of the interior roads opened a week ago. More to be opened before I go on 5/15. Got reservations at Old Faitfhful Inn, which is pretty much at a dead in until mid June. Going to drive down to the Tetons also.

Check for road construction for your drive to the Tetons. When we drove down through there a few years ago we had massive delays as some of the roads were being completely rebuilt. We waited 20-30 minutes several times in lines of traffic waiting for a pilot car to lead us through the construction without much road to speak of.

Thanks Richard, will do. So far the only construction I know of in the park is two bridges are being replaced. I need to check again though for the Tetons. I hope traffic isn't too heavy then, however it will be a weekend.

Probably. Any idea how far he was from the volcano? Years ago I watched a Shuttle liftoff from Titusville which I believe is about 5 miles away from the launch site. The Shuttle had climbed significantly before the sound/rumble reached where I was. Kind of bizarre to have it so far out of sync.

Wolf Volcano in Galápagos erupted yesterday after being dormant for the last 33 years! Wolf Volcano is the tallest volcano in Galápagos and located on an uninhabited island. The only population of pink iguanas live on Wolf as well as populations of yellow iguanas and giant tortoises. The eruption and lava flow are on the south side of the volcano and the wildlife populations are on the north side. The Galápagos National Park is closely monitoring the situation.
