:-(

I have stood on the very steps of your Parliament and admired your friendliness and democracy. A sad day my friends.

Take care.
Rusty.

The "Oh" was intentional.

From last night's Penguins/Phlyers game. Note that neither team is Canadian.

Stay strong Canada. These bastards who hate us passionately will do everything they can to try and destroy us. It doesn't matter if it's policeman in Australia, runners in the USA or soldiers in Canada and the UK we must stay strong.

The best part of this story is the guy who killed the gunman is the Sargent of Arms of Parliament, Kevin Vickers, and he is pictured below:

Here he is with his mace:

698

Here he is with his sword as his side:

699

And here he is yesterday with his handgun after shooting the intruder:

700

Needs a theme song, and a slow-mo explosion in the background.

What these losers don't realize is that the average person in the English-speaking Western world (ANZAC, UK, Canada, US) is not fundamentally different than they were 50 or 100 years ago. Anyone who knows me can attest that I am not a sabre-rattler, but we have taken care of more pressing threats on multiple occasions, and I am confident we will do it again. The average person I know wants to be left alone and live their life in the manner they want to, but they will do what they need to do to protect that. Canada will stay strong and the link below is a reminder that they are a tough breed.

Well instead he had to settle for a standing ovation when he entered the House of Commons today with his mace and sword (no gun in sight):

Canada PM 'hid in a closet' during attack (http://news.yahoo.com/canada-pm-hid-closet-during-attack-151453229.html;_ylt=AwrSyCWvd0pUL3UAB7DQtDMD)

I get that part.

This was the odd part:

Meanwhile, several Tory MPs began fashioning spears out of flagpoles to protect themselves.

"These guys were up there holding these spears ready to impale anyone who came in," the source said.

I take it you don't understand the flagpole part? I saw a longer story somewhere, maybe the Toronto Star, that seems like it was the longer version of what you linked to. In that story it was a little clearer in that apparently the room they were in had mounted on the walls a bunch of different flags, and presumably the flags were stuck over wooden poles (you know, something like 1 1/2 inch diameter, 4 foot long that you would hang off a bracket on the front of your house) and they took those and made them into weapons in the event the gunman entered the room.
