Hi folks, just a heads up for anyone with iDevices that there is a nasty ransomware happening Downunder and a few people have been caught out. This article came out in the Sydney Morning Hearld and has links to change your Apple Password etc. http://www.smh.com.au/digital-life/consumer-security/australian-apple-idevices-hijacked-held-to-ransom-20140527-zrpbj.html

On the Apple forum someone from Canada and England have also been hit but both may have been to Australia.

Sadly not much in the way of help coming from Apple at this stage but maybe a timing issue.

Take care all,

Russell.

It doesn't seem (at the moment at least) to be an actual hack of iOS but a password reuse situation. If your device is set up to require a passcode and uses two-factor authentication then this should not be an issue for you.

It seems that if it happens you can just follow the "forgot the passcode" protocol and wipe/reset the phone from your computer.

And that is just one more reason to routinely back up your iWhatever with iTunes. If you have to restore it and you keep it backed up you won't lose any data.

I see another 4 pages of folks getting hit overnight and reports coming in from US and Canadian customers.

It hasn't hit any of our 4 devices so all good here but others have had some or all devices locked.

I do wonder if people READ some of the previous threads before posting, "it must be eBay because they were hacked" but most of the posters don't have an eBay account. The plot thickens.....
