Russian Army column crosses Ukrainian border

The Telegraph witnessed a column of vehicles including both armoured personal carriers and soft-skinned lorries crossing into Ukraine at an obscure border crossing near the Russian town of Donetsk shortly before 10pm local time.

The Ukrainian and Western governments have long accused Russia of filtering arms and men across the border to fuel the separatist insurgency in Ukraine's Donetsk and Luhansk regions, but such an incident has never before been witnessed by Western journalists.

A separate, larger convoy of around 270 Russian trucks, which Moscow claims is carrying aid, rumbled to a halt just short of the border on Thursday night.

NATO Satellite Evidence That Russia Is Invading Ukraine

NATO released a series of satellite images on Thursday showing what a top general described as "Russian combat soldiers, equipped with sophisticated heavy weaponry ... operating inside Ukraine’s sovereign territory."

According to a statement posted on the NATO website, the photos "confirmed what NATO and its Allies had been seeing for weeks from other sources." This is a direct contradiction of recent statements made by Kremlin officials and a pro-Russian separatist leader in Ukraine who said all of the Russian troops who had entered the country were on "their vacations" and assisting the separatists on a volunteer basis.

The satellite photos NATO released showing “Russian combat troops inside Ukraine” prove nothing, Russia’s foreign minister said Friday. In fact, he thinks they may be from a video game.

“There have been reports about satellite imagery exposing Russian troop movements,” Sergey Lavrov said, according to state-owned Russia Today. “They turned out to be images from video games. The latest accusations happen to be much the same quality.”

Seeing as the situation in the Ukraine has deteriorated again, I figured I would bring this thread back to life. The Euros, Russkies, and Ukrainians are back at the table in Belarus, but I can't imagine what productive will come out of it. At this point, I am waiting to hear Hollande or Merkel say, "We have peace in our time" in their respective languages. The video on the BBC yesterday showing "rebel" shelling of an airport was scary. The airport is 30 miles from the front line and the "rebels" were able to score an almost 100% hit rate on the target.

My buddy found this interesting link today http://www.businessinsider.com/russia-ballistic-missile-defence-system-tundra-delayed-2015-2. Assuming it is correct, this means that the Russians do not have a full early warning system in place. I read a different article from the Boston Globe that with only radar available there is only 5 minutes to determine whether a threat is real or not on the Russian side. Given the paranoia being exhibited by the Russians, I don't like them only having 5 minutes to figure something out.
