He was driving in Porsche Supercup.

Sean Edwards, the current Porsche Supercup championship leader, has been killed in a testing accident in Australia. He was a passenger in a 996-gen 911 at Queensland Raceway in Willowbank.

The car left the track at Turn 6, hitting a tyre wall and killing Edwards instantly. The 20 year-old driver that Edwards was tutoring at the time is currently in hospital with life-threatening injuries after the car erupted into flames on impact. Emergency services spent three hours getting the driver from the car.

Shame. I thought this was ironic

Sean Edwards was recently involved in director Ron Howard's movie "Rush" about the 1976 Formula One season. Guy Edwards was one of the drivers who helped pull Niki Lauda from his burning car during the 1976 German Grand Prix.

And Emilio de Villota, father of Maria de Villota was one of the other drivers helping Lauda out of the car.

And it turns out that that is an incorrect bit of interweb lore. De Villota wasn't even in the race...
