I think I mentioned last year that I was selected to represent Australia at the Triathlon World Championship in the 25-29 age group. Well I was fortunate enough to be selected again. I wrote a bit about last year's race for anybody feeling like reading a tome!

Congrats to you. That's a tremendous accomplishment. I wish I had the willpower to be that active so I could eat all the donuts in the world.

Today marks 1 month until my first race in London, the World Aquathlon Championship. Just to hammer home how close it is, these arrived in the mail

 Indeed.

I read the blog in May but couldn't find any way to subscribe. Now that I'm so keenly aware, I've finally figured out how to do it. Best of luck!

it's race week! I got to London on Saturday and have done some sightseeing and some training. Just did my last run before my first race with just Squirrels for company in Kensington Gardens/Hyde Park. Went out on the bike yesterday (and swam). A kind passer by took this picture of me with my favourite team's outfit on:

In your "free time" you might want to take in the special Queen's Coronation exhibit at Buckingham Palace. Depending on your views, of course. ;)

Saturday, 27 July 2013 to Sunday, 29 September 2013

This summer marks the 60th anniversary of one of the most momentous occasions in 20th-century British history – the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II. To mark the anniversary of the event, a major exhibition for the Summer Opening of Buckingham Palace will bring together for the first time since Coronation Day, a spectacular array of dress, uniform and robes worn by the principal royal party. Works of art, paintings and objects used on the day will also be on display to recreate the atmosphere of that extraordinary occasion.

Just reading your blog now. I'm so glad you're happy with your result. Getting to the START line would be a victory for me. Finishing so well simply a dream. I hope you're home and hosed I mean home and feeling well rested by now. :D

It's only a cheap one, Shimano 105s and alloy frame. But Julie is great to ride even if presently a little beat up

It took me an eternity and more rewrites than the Fijian constitution but I finally put some words together to describe my race and the how and why I returned to Australia in a cast...

I hope you heal quickly. You gots some work to do for this:

When they told ABC’s Jim Lampley he was on his way to cover a new event in Hawai’i, he wasn’t sure he’d heard his producer correctly:
“They run a full marathon, 26 miles?”
“That’s right.”
“They run a full marathon after they swim and they bike?”
“Correct.”
“How far do they swim and bike?”
“The swim is about two and a half miles – in the ocean. And the bike ride is 112 miles.”

“Are they sure someone can actually do this?”

haha thanks but no thanks! Putting aside the cultural cringe that I get from Ironman, the long distance format doesn't appeal to me. I like to go fast.

Now THAT's funny.

When I first posted, I obviously read about a previous competition and thought it was this one. :o Thomas, you are a national treasure for Australia. I hope I get back to Oz one day so I can shout you to a beverage of your choice.

I thought it was a good joke ;-)

Thanks, I'm blushing at that comment. I think it's a stretch (much like my lycra haha) but I'll always take a compliment ;-)

Well a year on from the London disaster I'm here in Edmonton, AB for this year's World Champs. I have three races this year, the Aquathlon Wednesday (tomorrow), a Sprint on Friday and the Standard Distance World Championship on Monday. I'm goign to be tired by the end of the week!

Plenty moreto come but I wanted to share two special pictures with you. Despite two races earlier in the week I took a personal best finishing time in the Olympic distance race. One of my team mates was struggling and we encouraged each other to the line.

I haven't got around to the blog yet, proper media commitments come first! In the mean time, here is that proper media commitment.

Thomas Warren started the final race of his busy programme with no clear expectations having never raced so much in a week. After his best swim of the week, he was ready to go on what has been called the toughest bike course ever in a World Championship. After going up the hills faster than he had all week (even in training), and attacking the descents, he entered the second transition knowing that a steady run would net a personal best time over the race distance. And a steady run he delivered, not flashy but as good as he could muster with tired legs that collapsed under him as he crossed the finish line in 64thposition.

“A personal best after a hard week, at the World Championship, representing my country in my national colours? It does not get any better than this,” he enthused. “I’ve now achieved everything I ever set out to do in triathlon, I’m over the moon!” Once again the joy of the moment was clearly evident with the course commentators heard to exclaim that he was “one happy camper.”

Time for some blatant self-promotion:

If you've got some time on your hands (and the sight of people in lycra doesn't terrify you), head on over to www.tri-hardthomas.blogspot.com.au as I've put the first two of an eventual five blog posts up.
