With no warning to any of the drivers involved...

MotorSport Vision, promoters of the Formula 2 championship, have announced the series will not run in 2013 after just four years of existence.

The championship, a revival of the former Formula 2 series that ran until 1984, was launched in 2009 as a one-make class using cars built by Williams and powered by Audi engines.

Pro Formula Mazda may not be running next year either unless they get a buyer

Gee theres a surprise. Another slow spec series; it was completely irrelevant. If it had been a true Formula 2 they'd have been bigger F3 cars running something like 3.2L 6 cylinder engines.

Didn't someone just propose having an American F2? That's what we need. More speccy goodness wrapped in a Eurotrash shell.

Supposedly the USF2000 folks are taking over.

Dan Andersen bought the Mazda series. Not sure if the official announcement is out yet but they haven't exactly kept it overly quiet.

UPDATE: Andersen official: http://eformulacarnews.com/news_info.php?n=11903

F2 reportedly had only 2 drivers signed for next year and not many more sniffing around. It would have been a financial disaster. MSV may sell the cars to individual teams and re-launch as a more traditional series rather than the Skip Barber style "one team" set up.
