I set it up at PoolHost.com.

Pool Name is: OffCamber NFL12

Pool ID: OC12

Password: Zanardi

Weekly deadline is kickoff of the first game. I.e. Need to get your picks in before Thursday night for week 1.

Yea, I'd try that first, particularly if you were in the bracket pool in March.

Let me know if you're still having problems.

If you were in the bracket pool, you can log in to your account and then join the pickem pool. Others will have to register a PoolHost account and then join OC12.

Finally got it. I was hung up getting in at all. I thought I was logging in with my own user name and password but for some reason, Mr Memory in my browser had the wrong password. Once I was in, getting into the private pool was a piece of cake. :)

For you and any other Brown's fans the morning news ran a story that Modell is in the hospital and gravely ill which was followed by a several minute piece that was basically an obit.

Interesting reading the reaction of Browns fans today. Lots of vile hatred for Art in the social sphere. RIP, Mr. Modell.

Funny thing on the first news show I saw this morn in the 4am hour the story was introduced with something like "and we have news regarding the health of a polarizing ex-Clevelander". When they said it was Modell all I could think of was "wtf - how is he polarizing? EVERYONE agrees on hating him".

I am going to read this but the guy who wrote it has covered the Browns forever, mostly with the Plain Dealer. He likely knows Modell as well as anyone outside of his family (and my recollection is that his relationship with him was rocky).

Grossi had a falling out with the Browns ~ a year ago. He was a confrontational reporter from what I've read, which is a good thing. He was pushed out of the PD, which was sad in this day and age of vanilla reporting by papers and other media. Again, I have no horse in this race...just an interested observer (or JAFO in Blue Thunder terms). I only poked DQ because he deserves it. :p ;) :gomer:

Dando,

I would say that piece by Grossi was pretty good on Art. I am a little surprised though that he did not mention that he was supposedly personally a very fair and charitable guy, and that explains why a fair number of players never tossed him under the bus (most famously Jim Brown). It was kind of interesting to see how the news anchors were handing it this morn. They all know they guy was hated but no way any of them was going to inflame feelings about him.

I suppose everyone is someone's son or daughter, and for those who cared about him I'm sorry for their loss.

I just feel fortunate that one of the many stupid things that Modell did worked out for me. It enabled me to follow an NFL team bearing the legacy of the great Paul Brown without being a Browns fan.

Was he worse than Bob Irsay?

I'm guessing that people in Cleveland would say yes, people in Baltimore would say no. While Irsay sneaking out in the night was pretty epic, Modell left for a better deal while Irsay was allegedly under threat of having his team claimed under eminent domain.

Add firing one of the greatest coaches of his era and Modell may have the edge.

As Bengals radio analyst Dave Lapham mused, if it hadn't been for Modell the Bengals and the Ravens never would have been, and as if by script those two teams open their seasons Monday (7 p.m.-Cincinnati's Channel 12) in Baltimore.

A Baltimoron's perspective (http://deadspin.com/5941120/art-modell-1925+2012-grifter-traitor-model-nfl-owner):

Now Art Modell is dead. Good. He didn't die friendless and in pain, like Robert Irsay did, but at least he's just as dead. I hope Irsay gave him a friendly wave, one thief to another, as Modell plunged past him to an even deeper level of Hell.

Deeper? Oh, yes. Bob Irsay, the man who stole the Baltimore Colts, was a vicious, incompetent drunk. But he wore the nastiness right up on his shiny, booze-reddened surface. He didn't try to make anybody like or respect him.

Art Modell wanted respect. "I had no choice," he said, when he stole the Cleveland Browns and shipped them off to Baltimore, to cash in on the damage left there by Irsay. Every day of your life, you have a choice. Art Modell's choice was to be a traitor and a con man—and, on top of that, to be a whiner.

Napoleon

I would go with Irsay. I recall reading a story about him sometime back and he was a 1st class jackass. Modell was never that.

What they said on local (cleveland) tv was that they were suggesting that every team do something in memorial. In theory, the way I interpreted it, was that they could run something over the scoreboard for 2 seconds while the tv was at commercial and that would satisfy the requirement. Anyways this will get me to watch/dvr or listen to the game on the radio tomorrow.

Apparently Holmgren called the Modells asking what they thought would be appropriate in Cleveland. Family said they would be open to a brief tribute. But then the Ravens called Holmgren back and requested nothing be done. Nothing rather than a potential sea of boos.
