Not exactly what I was hoping for, but...A Dyson led group is leading a bid to produce the new Indy Lights car. Looks similar to the recent losing Lola bid for the new Indy Car and is likely to use that AER 2.0 Mazda Turbo that Dyson uses in the ALMS! There's my "Super Atlantic." :shakehead Wish I felt more excited about this. Dyson's car was turning 1:54s at RA last week, wonder what the fastest Atlantic time was there? Won't a Lights car also be lightER...than that ALMS coup? www.SPEED.com

Also note Swift, Deltawing and Mygale are offering proposals and Honda is suggesting use of their 2.8 twin-turbo V-6 P2 engine. Hmmm...I say accept them ALL, S***-can Dallara and drop the "Lights" name. The NEW Indy CAR!:D

That's right around the old Atlantics time IIRC. It's also faster than Mark Donohue in the Big Blue Turbo Panzer.

FILS has Tony Goerge Jr. at the helm, and 11 cars making up it's ranks. And that's down like 75% since FTGJR took over. aI know, its the economy, stupid...

Come on...why does this even rate as WGAF? Barnhart must be behind the curtain as VP of Operations and Strategic Nepotisim.

The IRL provides ride buying dilettantes a whole range of budget options. Why would anyone bother with a feeder series that doesn't feed?

I have no idea about TG Jr., but I'm pretty sure those numbers are an ABSURD misrepresentation as he officially took over in March '12. (http://www.trackforum.com/forums/showthread.php?161609-Tony-George-Jr.-new-boss-of-IndyCar-feeder-series&daysprune=365)

From what little I've read, he seems more on top of things than Pops (not a tough standard to beat, but still...).

You're right, my comparison numbers are off. Other than that, is there a problem with the rest of my post? The 11 cars in 2012, Barnhart, Economy, Nepotism?

Didn't think so. :p

Uh, yes. Enlighten me on what I'm missing.

Chief, no, you're pretty much on in terms of the junk that is Lights. I'll blame Bailey and Barnhart for it, not TG Jr...., yet.

New car, more relevant one anyhow, can't hurt, but ROI/costs, business model hasn't worked for yrs. in the feeders. New car alone isn't fixing it.

The ROI is a mammoth problem that so far has not been addressed. Cutting the cost of participation is an admission that the bigger issue isn't being fixed. A rising tide floats all boats. So far, tide's out.

This part:
Tony George Jr., who previously served as Indy Lights' manager of business development, will take over as director of Indy Lights from Roger Bailey.

This part:

Ding ding!

FTGjr has been with the lights for years. And its sucked all that time.

But it is touching that certain folks place so much trust in anyone named Hulman or George and are so willing to give them every chance to "turn things around". Hell, it took his daddy being gone for 2-3 years for some to finally admit that maybe....just maybe he hadn't been doing such a crackerjack job all those years. Some of the dumber ones even want him back. :shakehead

Where are all those "gently used" Swift 016s when you need them (just like we told the morons that they would)... :shakehead

It already has the pick-up points for the powertrain, and was development frozen throughout it's tenure as an atlantic car, however, the last time I saw them (and talked to a team mechanic), the MZR-R that AER builds for Dyson wouldn't fit in the car, but the Focus RS-Cosworth Turbo from the rally car would flat bolt in with room to spare.

F-ing geniuses, those Indy boys... :irked:
