Made in the USA? Not entirely for NASCAR in 2013
By Dustin Long, Special for USA TODAY

CONCORD, N.C. – Robin Pemberton, NASCAR's vice president of competition, said series officials will take a look this summer at the rule on what type of cars can compete in the Sprint Cup Series next year.

Chevrolet's 2013 SS model will be made in Australia, a conflict with NASCAR's current rules.

The 2012 Cup Rule Book states that the Cup series is "open to eligible 2012 models of American-made steel bodied passenger car production sedans."

The sport has been built around American-made cars since its debut in 1949.

Chevrolet recently announced that its car for next season, the SS, will be made in Australia. The Ford Fusion is made in Mexico, but the 2013 model will be made in Flat Rock, Mich. The Dodge Charger is made in Ontario, Canada. The Toyota Camry is made in Georgetown, Ky., and Lafayette, Ind.

In regards to Chevrolet's SS being build Down Under, Pemberton didn't seem to think it would be a problem.

"At least it is an American company that happens to build things in other countries," Pemberton said, "and it fits the criteria that we have right now.

"It's a global economy nowadays. Things come from everywhere.''

So when did Mexico and Canada become the 51st and 52nd states?

Apparently the NAFTA agreement replaced the Constitution.

This is not new news. Toyota has been the only US car in NASCAR for several years.

That subject is covered in high school. Making it to high school is a lofty academic achievement for many NASCAR fans. :tony:
