I'm a rookie website builder. I installed WAMP server on my desktop and over the course of a few days I built up a nice Wordpress site. Now all of a sudden I cannot launch it. WAMP is on and when I click on the desktop icon for my site, I get this:

The website cannot display the page
HTTP 500
Most likely causes:
•The website is under maintenance.
•The website has a programming error.

What you can try:
Retype the address.

Go back to the previous page.

More information
If I type http:/localhost/ into the address bar of ie8, up comes the WAMP screen like it should. I admit I barely know what I'm doing, but WTF? Since this board is as close as I'll ever get to a Mensa meeting, anybody familiar with this ****?

What else were you typing other than localhost?

When it was working http://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/ to edit things and http://localhost/wordpress/ to see my homepage.

Now when I type http://localhost/wordpress/wp-admin/ I get

"Error establishing a database connection
This either means that the username and password information in your wp-config.php file is incorrect or we can't contact the database server at localhost. This could mean your host's database server is down.

•Are you sure you have the correct username and password?
•Are you sure that you have typed the correct hostname?
•Are you sure that the database server is running?"

When I type
http://localhost/wordpress/ I get an HTTP 500 error.

Have you tried drinking more beer?

It may not help, but you'll feel more acceptance towards your failure. :D

There should be a log file somewhere to tell you which problem is happening with the database.

Have you tried poking around at forum.wampserver.com?

I'll try that. So far I saved my wordpress project in another folder. Uninstalled Wordpress and WAMP. Deleted all the registry entries I could find and now I'm going to start over. Hopefully I can add my old project as a new project once I get this buggy **** running.

Wampserver can lick me. I installed Xampp and it works so much better. I'm up and running in five minutes that included a Wordpress install. Xampp has faster navigation, better interface, . back to work. :)
